The Captain’s room was clean and spacious. The beds were comfortable. The AC kept us cool during the heat of these Virginia summer days. The shower was wonderful after our long beach days. Would definitely stay here again and can recommend it for perfect alternative to the crowded beaches at Virginia Beach proper. Lots of cute shops to pop into. Coffee at the Daily Grind was great, pizza at The Salty Dog and dinner at White Dog Bistro all nice for take out!

Mathews is a charming community and if you pass through, a stay at the Callis Inn is worthwhile. The Captain's Room is spacious and super clean. We stayed two nights and cleaning staff came in while we were out and freshened up the room with replacement towels and tidying up - nice touch. Nicole provided wonderfully lush towels in the bathroom, a treat to wrap up a shower at the end of a busy day. Have a bite at The White Dog Inn if you can. The local people are very friendly; we struck up lively conversations at the Inn and at each of the local eating places we went. The self-check at Callis Inn in is very convenient, and Nicole or her assistant are a quick call away.
