While our front yard has breathtaking expansive views of the Chugach Mountains and the waters of the Turnagain Arm, home to beluga whales, migrating salmon, and boasts the fourth highest tide in the world of 30.3 ft. The lodge is a 30 minute drive South from Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, yet with the wilderness all around it seems very remote! Both Turnagain View Lodge and Indian Valley Mine are family owned and operated by Roger, Arlene, and Matilda Cowles. The lodge along with the Gold Mine are located at Mile 104, Seward Highway. We look forward to meeting you!
Great place with amazing views! Would be an amazing place for a wedding! Hope to be back someday and have more time to check out the mine.
Spectacular air bnb! Highly recommend. The views are out of this world! The house was EXTREMELY clean. Arlene was 100% responsive anytime I had a question. Beautiful property. You can’t go wrong staying here.
Amazing stay. The view was incredible. Be sure to give lots of extra time for great stories at the gift shop!
Indian Valley Mine is at the bottom of the driveway. Next is the resort town of Girdwood just 25 minutes from Indian. While Girdwood is ski central during the winter, summer means hiking through the temperate rainforest, riding the tram, or even taking a glacier dogsledding tour. In Portage, see the impressive Begich Boggs Visitor Center and the Portage Glacier. Nearby is the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center where you can safely watch grizzly bears, muskox, moose and elk.
Whittier is just under an hours drive from the lodge, where you’ll find day cruises into Prince William Sound to view glaciers and wildlife. A bit further is the town of Seward, the gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park. In Seward there are also day cruise options into the fjords, as well as kayaking excursions and hiking trails.
Most guests rent or own a vehicle to get around. In winter conditions, a 4 wheel drive or all wheel drive is needed to navigate up and down the driveway.
自我介绍
Your hosts Roger and Arlene Cowles finished building the lodge in 2009. The lodge is a great addition to Indian Valley Mine National Historic Site. Both are outdoor enthusiasts. Roger and a few buddies rode bicycles 1,160 miles from Anchorage to Nome on the Iditarod Trail — the first modern day cyclist to do so. Arlene is a veteran kayaker, having paddled most of the mainland coast of Alaska over a period of seven summers. Roger has lived in Alaska for over 50 years and Arlene over 35 years.
