There are two good pubs; The Bell is known for meandering conversations with the locals! The Boat is on the other side of the footbridge and offers an 'oldie worldie' setting with roaring fires and a stunning terraced beer garden overlooking the river.
There is a village green on the banks of the river with access for canoes, and a well maintained
playground.
The Wye Valley AONB is an outdoor-lovers' dream, offering first-class mountain-biking and walking trails and is popular with climbers and canoeists, too. The Offa's Dyke national footpath runs in front of the house, tracking 177 miles along the English/Welsh border. If you fancy a slightly shorter jaunt, you'll find plenty of recommendations in the guest book for local walks.
The area is famous for mountain-biking - if you're not fortunate enough to stumble upon the dozens of local trails, try heading over to Pedalabikeaway Cycle Centre in the heart of the Forest of Dean.
The historic market town of Monmouth is just a few minutes drive and offers a bustling high street with many unique and independent shops, as well as several good supermarkets (Lidl, Waitrose, M&S) and a leisure centre.
In the other direction, picturesque Tintern is well worth a visit for its impressive Abbey, crafts centre and Old Station.
The Wye is a real foodie destination with plentiful eateries and gastro pubs. You can also discover
vineyards, breweries and farm shops selling top quality local produce. We've included all the insider tips in your welcome pack.
For those wishing to venture a little further, the cities of Bristol, Cardiff and Cheltenham are all very accessible in around 1-hour. This is a great base for striking out into the Brecon Beacons or exploring the beautiful beaches of the Gower.
