Aanrader!
We had a lovely one night stay here, we walked from Chepstow and it was write on the Offas Dyke path, a lovely spot to rest our legs!
Splendid little cottage. Everything was neat, clean and thoughtfully out together. And an astoundingly beautiful part of the country. Thanks, will be back.
Redbrook is approx 3 miles south of the historic market town of Monmouth and about 13 miles north of Chepstow on the A466. The Forest of Dean that lays claim to be England's largest Oak forest is a 15 minute drive away.
The village is steeped in history and award winning!
In 2017 Redbrook featured in Channel 4's 'Village of the Year'. In 2022, The Boat in Penallt (just the other side of the old railway bridge in the centre of town) featured in the Guardian’s 'best UK waterside pubs'
We are a small but thriving community of about 400 welcoming souls. Regular events include; live music at the two local pubs, weekly dance and yoga classes and a monthly film night at the village hall. The highpoint of the village calendar is the Live On The Wye music festival held each June. For a festival of this size it really punches above it's weight and has attracted some prodigiously talent acts over the years.
Hard to believe now but once upon a time Redbrook was an industrial hub that produced some of the world’s finest tin plate. The village's rich industrial heritage was marked by the creation of Tinman’s Green – our village green in 2000. Today, situated as it is in the lower Wye Valley an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, visitors are more enamoured of its natural beauty. But whatever your mood or fancy, you’re perfectly placed to indulge your passions for both. A rich mix of rewarding walks, rock climbing, mountain bikes trails, fascinating historic abbeys, mines, and castles can be accessed if not directly from your doorstep, then via a short drive.
The beauty of the scenic River Wye (though more imperilled of late!) can be experienced close up by canoe, paddleboard or, for the brave hearted, wild swimming. But if you'd like to explore the river in a more leisurely fashion and take in some of the best views of the valley then there are regular boat trips from Symonds Yat, 20 minute drive away
There are two pubs both within walking distance, a fabulous local shop selling an array of local produce (vegans are well catered for) and all necessities.
Public transport wise there are a couple of bus stops along the main street that take you east through the valley to Tintern and Chepstow or going in the other direction to Monmouth - a ten minute ride away.
There is a local bus service with a couple of stops along the main street ie the A466. The number 69 bus will take you east through the valley to Tintern and Chepstow or, going in the other direction, to Monmouth which is about a ten minute ride away. There are stops outside the village shop.
