When leaving the site, one immediately enters the beautiful nature of the wonderful Perreal hill with its winding paths and striking gypsum deposits that form fossil sites.
The views are breathtaking in places, spanning the entire width of the Luberon valley with its small villages and hamlets.
The Parc Regional Naturel de Luberon, which covers more than 40 municipalities, is a nationally protected heritage, with a unique variety of natural forests, cherry orchards, vineyards, medieval villages, castles and lavender fields. This blend of nature, human history and culture is impressive, not only for France, but also for the rest of Europe. Also referred to as the Tuscany of Provence, the area is a cherished and carefully preserved landscape under the warm southern sun of France, a jewel bordered by the impressive highlands around Mont Ventoux and the deeply carved Gorges du Verdon.
The region is dotted with cultural and historical attractions, such as the thousand-year-old Church of Sainte Anne in nearby Apt, and the two-thousand-year-old Pont Julien, an ancient Roman bridge that still spans the Coulon River. Many villages are interesting and memorable places to visit. Rousillon was a hiding place for the writer Samuel Beckett during the Second World War.
Gordes is spectacularly situated against the Vaucluse massif, with the abbey of Senanque not far away, dating from 1148. The village of Menerbes has become famous as a starting point for books and films about the specific Provencal lifestyle.
Once home to the famous Marquis de Sade, Lacoste is a popular spot for history and theater buffs.
All these villages offer shops, restaurants and historic sites, and can be reached in less than half an hour's drive. The legendary Avignon, which for a time was Rome's rival/substitute for the papal seat during the Middle Ages, is within a 45-minute drive and offers an abundance of cultural and historical attractions.
You can park your car in the villa's own car park, which is accessed via an electrically operated entrance gate. The medieval village of St Saturnin les Apt is 2 km from the villa. There you will find all kinds of amenities such as two bakeries, a butcher, a small supermarket, several restaurants, a medical centre and a post office. The town of Apt, 8 km away, has a history dating back to Roman times, but otherwise has all the amenities you would expect from a modern medium-sized French town, such as large supermarkets, but also pleasant shopping streets, a hospital, banks, a regional museum, etc.
