We are situated just 30 minutes north of downtown Santa Fe, with views of both the Sangre de Cristos and the Jemez Mountain ranges. There are walking trails all around, and our property (5 acres) borders the Pojoaque River. It is a quiet and peaceful setting, wonderful for enjoying the majesty of northern New Mexico. We are convenient to Los Alamos, Bandelier National Park, the Santa Fe Opera, Chimayo, Taos, Georgia O'Keeffe's Ghost Ranch and Abiquiu. Our studio apartment is ideal for two people looking for a quiet getaway in a rural setting, yet a short drive from the cities of Santa Fe and Los Alamos. There is a queen size bed (with new Casper mattress), sitting area and kitchen with dining table and chairs. Original artwork, sculpture, custom cabinetry, hardware and lighting fixtures all created by the owners are details that make this space inviting and unique. We recently added a new oven with hood vent & storage cabinet to the kitchen area, which also comes equipped with a microwave, toaster oven, refrigerator/freezer, and blender. The ceramic dinnerware provided is microwaveable. You will also find several sizes of stemware (both plastic & glass) flatware and serving dishes for cooking & storing food. An assortment of coffee, tea & sugar are provided, as well as bottled drinking water for travel. (Water from faucet fine for drinking). Sliding glass doors in the living area provide access to a small courtyard garden, a common area we are happy to share. You can enjoy stargazing in the evening and beautiful sunrises over the Sangres in the mornings. The private bath has a tub/shower, vanity and toilet, as well as a linen closet with extra sheets & towels. The spacious closets in the living area have shelving, hangers and luggage racks, as well as a small dresser to encourage guests the opportunity to feel at home in the space. Because we are having so many guests working remotely from the apartment, we also have a collapsible work table and chair that may be stored if not needed. The apartment has its own separate router hardwired to give a strong, consistent signal. International Zoom calls are not an issue.
This was our second stay at Merrimon's spaciously cozy apartment -- and we were just as happy as we were the first time. We love the quiet of the countryside out in the county, and the convenience of being able to quickly reach Los Alamos and Santa Fe. And for trips further north (Taos, Abiquiu, southern Colorado), it's ideally situated. Merrimon and Tom -- and friendly dogs Willa and Kate -- are perfect hosts. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.
I enjoyed my stay at Merrimon’s so much that I extended it! The space is bright, beautiful, and spotless. Merrimon and Tom are incredibly kind and generous and Willa and Kato are the sweetest dogs. The surroundings are beautiful and walks up the Pojoaque River and Arroyo Gigante have stunning views. It is perfect for working remotely with fast WiFi, a large table, and a very comfortable office chair. The location is convenient to Santa Fe and a perfect base for exploring northern New Mexico.
We had an absolutely fantastic stay at Merrimon and Tom's casita. They are truly wonderful and thoughtful people & hosts. The space itself is a well-appointed & laid out studio, that was inviting & perfect for our remote work needs. An office chair & an extra fold up desk was provided, and the wifi was great. The comfortable setup allowed us to be productive while enjoying the serene surroundings. The kitchen was equipped with everything we needed to prepare meals. It truly felt like a home away from home. We ended up extending our stay since we like it so much! The dogs are an absolute delight. Well-behaved and adorable, they added an extra layer of warmth to the experience.
We are located in the Pojoaque River Valley off Highway 502 and not far from its intersection with Highway 285/84. Pojoaque offers a small shopping complex on 285/84 where you can find restaurants, grocery store, gas stations, laundromat, hardware store and even a bowling alley!
Grocery Shopping
There are several places you can stop for groceries if approaching from Santa Fe: take the St. Francis exit off I-25 and you'll pass a Trader Joe's at the intersection of Cordova and St. Francis. There is also Devargas Shopping Center as you're heading north on St. Francis towards Pojoaque (St. Francis becomes Hwy 285/84). Take a right on the 2nd Paseo de Paralto (a U shaped street that connects to St. Francis twice) and you'll see the shopping center on your left. There's a Sprouts and Market Street (was called Albertsons till just recently). We also have the Pojoaque Supermarket on 285/84 just before the exit for Hwy 502. It's small and a limited on selection but convenient for staples. If you want to take home some local seasonings, etc. it's a pretty good stop & kind of interesting to see.
Coming from the north on Hwy 68 there is a Walmart in Espanola that is probably the easiest supermarket to visit before reaching Hwy 285/84 and the Hwy 502 exit. The address is 1610 N. Riverside Drive (Hwy 68).
A car is a necessity in this location, there are not many public transportation options close enough to be a consideration. Our road is gravel and has several arroyos crossing it, so the best choices when renting a car are four wheel or all wheel drive.
Parking is available in front of the apartment for easy access, with a turn-around area so no backing down driveway!
自我介绍
My husband Tom and I relocated to the Santa Fe area in 2015 after living on the coast of NC. I owned a contemporary art & craft gallery there for 27 years, but retired from the gallery business to pursue my own career as an artist. Tom is a retired builder and designer, but now that he has completed renovating our new guest apartment he can focus on his sculpture full time. We both have our own studios on the property (7 acres) that are separate from the residential area. We are seasoned travelers and our family has had many wonderful adventures together. Tom and I ended up moving to NM after falling in love with the area on a cross country road trip with our daughter! We look forward to visiting as many of the National Parks in the West and Southwest as we can, and feel fortunate that there are so many relatively close by. Gardening is a favorite hobby and we have been learning about all the plants that grow here in the high dessert/canyon area. Very different from coastal NC! We are extremely fortunate to have water on our property, and the grounds have many beautiful cottonwoods and fruit trees. We are definite foodies, though I would say Tom is the better cook. My specialty is baking, particularly gluten-free/dairy-free breads and desserts since he has had to alter his diet for health reasons. Books and movies are important diversions, too many favorites to consider listing! We love our home in New Mexico and would enjoy sharing the beauty and tranquility of this very special place with our guests. We will respect your privacy but are also happy to offer suggestions and recommendations for points of interest, dining etc. There is definitely a reason this state is called the Land of Enchantment!
