Galera Cottage is paradise. The house is immaculate, with a beautiful garden, in a beautiful neighbourhood. We stayed for one week and could have easily stayed longer. The area was a great home base (with local restaurants and amenities) and it was easy to explore the entire island from Caloura (we never had to drive more than 90 minutes to reach the farthest corners of Sao Miguel). On top of it all, Francisco is a wonderful host. He was very flexible with our check in & check out, and is also friendly and thoughtful (there was bread, jam, cheese - and bananas from the garden! - waiting for us when we arrived). An overall wonderful place and experience. We hope to visit again! :)

Loved, Loved, Loved our stay at this charming home. 360 degree views of ocean, mountains and well kept village . Francisco and his mom were warm and welcoming and we highly recommend staying with them. Plus Francisco gave as great referrals to local whale watching guides and wonderful Oceanside restaurants, that were just a stones throw away.

We loved staying in this beautiful cottage and truly appreciated the care and craft that went into preserving and updating such a magnificent yet simple dwelling. The cottage is so cozy and inviting, outfitted with everything you need to enjoy a lovey stay by the sea. The views from the cottage are phenomenal and you’re situated within walking distance to the oceanfront. A wonderful property with so much character and charm.

We spent four nights here and felt so lucky to find this Airbnb. Francisco was an exceptional host. The cottage is clean, comfortable, private and also very historic. Beautiful views including a small outdoor seating area to watch the sunset. The central location on the island is perfect to explore all the major sights. We walked to three different restaurants from here. Highly recommend!

The views from inside and outside the cottage are spectacular. The neighborhood is extremely safe and so quiet you can hear the ocean all the time. We loved have coffee and dinner on the outdoor patio that overlooked the ocean. The property that the family owns is spectacular. We used the kitchen to cook many meals and it had all that we needed for that. We walked to the town and got necessary groceries and wine there. The bed was very comfortable and we slept well. We were there in December, but are from Massachusetts, so found the temperatures to be great. The space heaters added heat when we needed it. If you have difficulty carrying your bag there is a short walk from the driveway to the cottage with a few steps. It was not an issue for us. Francisco always responded very quickly with any questions that we had. We'd be happy to stay there again! It was such a relaxing and peaceful stay.
