Whisk your loved one to somewhere truly special and book a stay at this former gun house in Shaldon, Devon. Sleeping just two guests, the one-bedroom retreat captures spectacular views out across the River Teign and the sea. The exceptional holiday home, which now has a stylish, contemporary interior was used during the second world war by guards protecting the British coast and its conversion was followed on on Channel 4’s George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces. Compact and unique, it also includes an attractive, courtyard garden, where you can relax, enjoy the sea air and lose yourselves in the views. Creatively converted, the haven has been completed to ensure your every comfort. Climb the exterior steps and make your way into the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner. Tear yourselves away from the sweeping coastal vistas through the picture windows to relax on the sofa in front of the Smart TV, make fresh coffee or whip up a tasty meal for two in the kitchen, or simply chat as you play music through the Bluetooth speaker. There is underfloor heating and mood lighting to bring that extra touch of luxury. Follow the winding, wooden, open-tread staircase down to find your cosy king-size bedroom and its en-suite shower room. Step out into one of the two outdoor seating areas to read your books in the sunshine or grill supper on the BBQ over a glass of something bubbly. Guests will be given a parking permit for a car park 100 metres away. Stroll just 50 metres from the retreat to the beach to swim, paddle board or catch a ferry over to Teignmouth, where you can shop for local produce, browse in galleries and dine out. Amble 500 metres and through a former smugglers’ tunnel down to spend time on the secluded beach at Ness Cove.
