Countryside retreat a stone's throw from Edinburgh centre. Newly built for 2024. South facing. Super-insulated and super cosy! Located at the former Currie Goods Station, at the foot of the Pentland Hills. Great local walks straight from the doorstep. Traffic free cycling straight into Edinburgh. 5 minutes walk to bus stop for Edinburgh. 15 minutes drive to Edinburgh airport. Shared 1 acre garden (currently a work in progress) and boot room. Electric car charging by request @20p per kWh. We're at the historic site of Currie Goods Yard. This was on the railway line serving a thriving industry of mills along the Water of Leith Valley in Victorian times. Today this is great path for walking and cycling that goes to Edinburgh city centre and on to the the sea at Leith. We have converted the Goods Shed into our house over the past few years, and we have newly built The Sidings for guest accommodation. The garden is an acre of trees and meadow. Much of it is newly planted and is a work in progress. In the winter the meadow is kept short, then in the summer months it grows long and comes into flower and brings with it lots of wildlife. The building is super-insulated and draught free construction so it's both comfortable to stay in and sustainable. There are more details about the ventilation below. The accommodation is open plan with south facing views to the fields. There are two main rooms with an entrance area between. The living area includes the kitchen and dining table. It has a wood burning stove which will be ready made up and ready to go when you arrive. The kitchen has everything you should need to cook meals, plus microwave and dishwasher. The bedroom has a king sized bed and en suite shower room. There's a glazed door if you want to sit out in the day time, and curtains pull across all areas of the glazing for privacy. There is also a boot room (which is a shared space) where there's a washing machine, sink, a clothes drying rack and coat hanging. We have a ventilation unit (MVHR) that supplies fresh air from outside. Air flows from the unit in the kitchen around to the bedroom and shower room where it is extracted. 90% of the heat is recovered from the outgoing air and put back into the incoming air so that it's not wasted. This is a low energy approach to providing good air quality together with draught free construction. There are instructions in the blue folder.
What a wonderful place, everything was perfect and we absolutely loved our stay there. The cottage was incredibly comfortable and quiet and Kate, Alisdair and Peggy were wonderful hosts. If we come back this way we would definitely stay there again.
I believe this was one of my best airbnb experiences hands down. This area is far away enough from the city, it’s quiet, I was able to have great walks around, which I loved. There is an easy access to the bus (3 min walk) which goes directly to the city. The guest house has big windows facing a field where I got watch beautiful sunsets and sunrise. The place design made me feel grounded, and everything was clean and there was also cleaning supplies which is a plus for me. Kate and Al were incredible hosts. Genuine and extremely kind people, they were very welcoming took good care of me which made my visit 1000x better than I could’ve asked for. I recommend this place for anyone who’s like to unwind and want to discover areas beyond Edinburgh.
Kate and Alasdair were wonderful hosts. They were very responsive during the booking process and also were quick to help if we needed anything during our stay. They met us at the property, showed us around and made us feel very welcome. The property is exactly as pictured; very comfortable bed, well equipped kitchen and modern bathroom. The views of the countryside from the floor to ceiling windows are beautiful and we enjoyed our morning coffee on the outside patio. Kate supplied lots of local info about the area as well as instructions about the amenities in the property. Currie is a great village with a pub within walking distance of the property as well as walks along the Water of Leith and into the Pentland Hills. We enjoyed being able to park our car on the property and it’s only a 20 minute drive into Edinburgh. If you want to leave the car at home, the bus stop is just a 5 minute walk from the house. Perfect property for a couple wishing to visit the Edinburgh area.
Absolutely beautiful stay! Such a cosy and stylish cottage. Loads of thoughtfull touches, comfy beds. We cooked in the cottage and it had everything we needed. there is a lot to do within a driving distance as well. Was lovely having a breakfast while watching wild rabbits jumping around the front door.
