Ulverston is a popular holiday location primarily due to its proximity to many of the Lake District's most popular attractions, including Lake Windermere, Coniston Water and the West Cumbrian coastline, although locally, you also have plenty to see and do, such as walking up The Hoad to The Sir John Barrow Monument and marvelling at the spectacular views of Morecambe Bay, or perhaps visit the South Lakes Safari Zoo just 4-miles away. Formally the traditional home to the farmers' hiring fairs, today, The Gill is better known as the start of the Cumbria Way walking trail - a five-day trek from Ulverton to Carlise. Expect to see plenty of walkers, especially in the summer - perhaps give them a cheer as they pass. The Gill still hosts a variety of fairs and events throughout the year. The house was fully refurbished in 2023/early 2024; the owners have sympathetically retained many of the original features, such as the grey slate floor and the spice cupboard (now housing books and board games), to make a cosy home from home for friends or family. The house has two floors above ground, with a cosy living room and well-equipped kitchen on the ground floor, two lovely bedrooms, a large bathroom, and a utility cupboard housing the washing machine and tumble dryer on the first floor. The dining room is on the lower ground level, accessed from the kitchen, a lovely space to enjoy a home-cooked meal or perhaps a takeaway from one of the many local food outlets - you are on holiday, after all! Guests should be aware that the stairs to the lower dining room are the original stone stairs without spindles, so children should be careful when using the stairs.
