As expressed, this historic home was a great choice for us because of its majestic views of the marsh and special birds, big old trees, sunrises and sunsets, fireplace, super modern bathroom, shower and tub, spacious room and neighborhood. Rita generously gifted coffee & condiments, milk, creamer, great muffins and CHAMPAGNE! A few things to consider IF THEY APPLY TO YOU: The wrap around deck was very old and questionable but we didn’t need to be out there because the window walls offered the same views from indoors and has screened doors for fresh air and listening to the birds. No counter available for hot food so eat out or take out. The bed is cozy but a bit soft in the middle for two. The stairs to this unit are steep and very narrow. The above few mentions are just to help you plan well. As you drive around the marsh and see this big house on the hill, you would dream of getting inside…WELL YOU CAN! We hope to come back. We loved Rita's place so much! It was gorgeous and relaxing and she was very responsive. The bathtub is amazing and we would be very excited to return!
The setting is unbeatable. It was my first time living above and within a salt marsh. The birds were plentiful, and watching the tides change throughout the day was enjoyable and restful. We needed time to rest and unwind, and Rita provided a lovely place to do so.
Although I did not meet Rita she was extremely flexible when I sent family to meet her while I was late for check in. She was very accommodating and responsive during my stay. The place was wonderful and even during a heatwave it was the perfect breezy space to stay. The area is beautiful and peaceful and Rita’s personal touches to her suite made it the perfect home away from home for the weekend.
We love the view and the roomy apartment. and being able to catch the sunrise and sunset is a real treat. Rita is very accommodating and helpful. We will be back. This is a special spot.

I've had a few careers but one of my favorites grew out of my volunteer stint as PTA hospitality chair: I became a caterer, after teaching American history and before law school. I loved feeding people then with delicious food, and I feel the same way about hosting guests in my home, which has all the ingredients for a relaxing, nature-filled stay including a hammock, and flower and herb gardens. My adult daughters, a doctor and journalist, have helped me write a full guide to the house and area, which we've cherished as a family retreat for 28 years. I will guide as much or as little as you like.
