This home is beautiful. Very quiet & peaceful neighborhood. Helpful tips: When you enter Las Vistas, take a quick left, the house is the last in the cul-de-sac and in front of the small basketball court. The lockbox is behind the garage on the wall. Our GPS had us take a right and we were lost for a bit and had to locate the house by the picture. The house number is B29. Most of the houses do not have visible numbers. The pool is a highlight and was perfect for days that we wanted to relax at the airbnb. I highly recommend this home. Each room has an air conditioner that was great for the weather we had, which was never below 80. There is a full laundry room and bathroom outside, which came in handy throughout our stay. Our family had a great time. The owners are very responsible and respond quickly. When I return to PR. I would love to check out their other properties since we had such a great experience. Thank you Marisol & Pedro for sharing your home with us!
Marisol and Pedro’s place was over my expectations. The house is clean and neat. The decor is beautiful. The pool area is very big and has everything you need to have a good time with your family. Marisol is very responsive and friendly. Thank you so much, i hope to come again to your house.
Super cozy, clean and comfortable! Felt at home. Restaurants and stores were all a car drive but was not far and it was nice to take rides to different locations from there. Marisol was attentive and quick with responding to our questions! Marisol is really the epitome of Super Host I give her 10 stars! Gracias por tu atencion y por compartir tu bello hogar!
Beautiful, cozy home, ACs all over the house, the pool was neat and clean. The location is 5 min away from the plaza, main restaurants, bars and places to see. I definitely recommend and will be coming in the future. Marisol and Pedro were extremely helpful and went above and beyond . They helped my parents (who drove to the area without GPS) with directions, for which I am very grateful.
Just a 90-minute car ride away from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU), Coamo is the third-oldest town in Puerto Rico, preceded only by San Juan and San Germán.
Located in a warm, dry valley surrounded by mountains thick with vegetation, Coamo is known as “the village of marathon runners” in honor of el Medio Maratón San Blas, a popular annual sporting event that attracts athletes from around the world. But it’s the natural, geothermal hot springs that really makes Coamo a must-stop for visitors to Puerto Rico.
Here’s a look at things to do while visiting the village of Coamo:
Baños de Coamo Hot Springs
The popular Coamo hot springs are located in a facility called Baños de Coamo, where you will find an outdoor spa-like environment with two pools, showers, bathrooms, and open-air seating. For less than $5, you can enjoy a therapeutic and relaxing soak in these healing waters. The facility, which is open seven days a week, is surrounded by gardens and beautiful mountain views. There is also an inn and 18-hole golf course nearby.
Teatro Hollywood (Hollywood Theater)
This historic cinema was originally built in the early 20th century, but has recently undergone a major restoration. The single-screen theater now projects 4K movies at affordable prices, and is one of the most popular attractions in Coamo. After you buy your tickets, stop by concessions to buy popcorn, hot dogs, ice cream, candy, nachos, soft drinks, and café colao. Teatro Hollywood operates seven days a week and is located steps from Coamo’s town plaza.
Town Plaza
Coamo's town plaza is full of Spanish Colonial-style buildings and houses that give an account of the municipality's history. The circa-1784 Catholic Church of San Blas de Illescas, located in the center of the plaza, is one of the most important works of religious architecture on the island, as well as one of the oldest. Also in the public square, you’ll recognize the Town Hall by its tower, which contains a French clock from 1898.
The Town Plaza was remodeled between 1990 and 2000 to become an attractive recreational space complete with trees, gardens, gazebos, old-style benches, and monuments commemorating historical events that took place in Coamo.
San Blas Half Marathon
This sporting event with more than 50 years of history is held annually in Coamo on the first Sunday in February, and marks the end of the patron saint festivities. More than 1,000 runners, including international elite athletes, typically participate in the race. The route is well known for both its beauty and its difficulty, and spectators embrace the opportunity to find a good spot to watch — some even gathering days before the event to camp out and browse the local artisans and food vendors who set up along the route.
Where to Eat in Coamo
Thanks to its location on the fertile southern slope of the Central Mountain Range, Coamo’s main economic engines are agriculture, poultry farming, and cattle. This makes Coamo an excellent place to enjoy simple but tasty dishes made from the plentiful local bounty.
Stop by one of Coamo's many food trucks to try charcoal-grilled chicken accompanied by baked root vegetables, like yams and sweet potatoes or yucca with mojo — a staple marinade made with herbs, olive oil, and lots of garlic. If you prefer something with more service, there are many charming restaurants to visit. Be sure to try mofongo, a Puerto Rican specialty dish made with fresh plantains and stuffed with a variety of succulent meat cuts, products of the cattle raised just outside of town.
Any of these dishes combine perfectly with a refreshing mojito, sangria, or freshly squeezed juice made from locally grown guanábana, tamarind, or grapefruit.
Here are some must-try restaurants in Coamo.
La Gota de Rojas
This family-owned restaurant located in a historic building close to Coamo’s town plaza is known for its excellent service and delicious Caribbean and Puerto Rican cuisine. Don’t miss the mamposteao rice with chuletas can-can (deep-fried pork chops) and tostones (fried plantain wheels), or the ever-popular homemade mojitos and sangrias. La Gota de Rojas is open Wednesday through Sunday, and features live music on weekends.
La Ceiba Bar & Restaurant
Did you get to Puerto Rico and fall in love with mofongo? If the answer is "yes," then this is the place for you. Go ahead and try the trifongo, made with yucca, green plantain, and ripe plantain, stuffed with chicken and bacon, and bathed in a creamy white sauce. If you prefer to keep things simple, opt for the mofongo stuffed with grilled skirt steak and topped with mushroom sauce — two examples of the numerous variations you’ll find of this Puerto Rican staple. You’ll find La Ceiba on the main road that leads to Coamo’s town square.
Restaurante Hacienda Don Juan
Fine meat cuts are the specialty at Restaurante Hacienda Don Juan, located in the Los Llanos neighborhood of Coamo. Among the gastronomic offerings here include La Hacienda, a puff pastry filled with juicy steak, smothered in mushroom sauce, and served with chorizo risotto; or the Mar y Tierra, a sirloin steak combined with a lobster tail and tostones. Other offerings include flame-grilled filet mignon, rib-eye steak, and lamb ribs, or ripe plantain lasagna stuffed with veggies for the non-meat-eaters in your party.
BarMuseo
Coamo's BarMuseo brings top-notch tapas, cocktails and pizzas to the table. The restaurant's trendy, fresh take on classics lend the menu an elevated feel perfect for a nice dinner out — and if you're looking for a light bite or an intimate bar experience, here's our pick. From seasonal wines and cocktails to appetizers like artisan flatbread, baked mac and cheese, and sushi, you won't leave disappointed.
Patria: Fondita Criolla Creativa
Patria: Fondita Criolla Creativa specializes in mofongo. Popular across the Island, this side dish is served dozens of ways — no better than at Patria, where you can enjoy it with tender skirt steak drizzled in bright chimichurri or with cornbeef and garlic sauce. For an appetizer, snack on crisp sorrullitos, or cornmeal fritters, savored best with a tangy house-made dip.
Coamo Golf Bakery
Often, a cup of coffee is in order — especially after a full morning exploring Coamo. Swing by Coamo Golf Bakery, a quaint shop known for its fresh, hot coffee, pastries, and sandwiches. Consider ordering a coconut ball, a sweet, tender treat flecked with bits of crunchy shaved coconut.
