A meticulously presented, Scandi-style lodge positioned dramatically at the foot of a former whinstone quarry. Stay just two miles from Bamburgh, with its iconic castle and pristine, dune-backed beach Ideal for a group of friends or an extended family party, Wild Chive is part of an exclusive development in rural quietude. In being set across a single floor, this airy home also suits anyone of limited mobility too. Featuring a soft palette punctuated by pops of colour from designer fabrics or artworks, its contemporary interiors are cleverly designed. Floor-to-ceiling feature windows maximise the natural light below a lofty gable roof. Bi-fold doors connect to a terrace, enabling indoor-outdoor living during warmer months. On cooler days, your log-burning stove will keep everyone perfectly cosy. The main, open-plan living area focuses on those truest of luxuries: space and comfort. Different sections host a modern, Shaker-style kitchen featuring numerous amenities, a convivial dining area and the three-sofa sitting room with its 55-inch Smart TV. Two of the cheerful bedrooms have king-sized beds; one of them is also en-suite with a walk-in shower. The final sleeping quarter contains two twin beds, while a spa-like family bathroom features a tub and shower above. Outside, that decked terrace is carefully positioned to provide distant views to Bamburgh Castle as you sip a morning coffee. Better still, a short woodland walk leads to a viewing platform atop the old quarry. From this magnificent perch you can gaze more clearly at the castle and see the Farne Islands in the North Sea beyond. More pleasant footpaths (eyes peeled for deer!) or a short drive will take you to Bamburgh, where characterful pubs, ice creams, a superb, sandwich-making delicatessen and the Copper Kettle tea rooms await. Looming over a village green where cricket games take place is the mighty fortress, and just beyond begins Bamburgh Beach’s miles of sand — making days by the seaside a cinch! Holy Island, boat trips to the wildlife-rich Farnes and Chillingham’s amazing wild cattle are all also conveniently close by. GROUND FLOOR The accommodation is all on the ground floor and therefore may be suitable for less mobile guests. Open-plan living area comprising: Sitting room with three two-seater sofas, 55” Digital Smart TV, wood burner (initial supply of logs provided) and games table seating two with backgammon set provided. Fully-equipped kitchen with four-ring electric hob, electric oven, microwave, dishwasher and Dolce Gusto coffee machine. Dining area seating six guests with full-height bi-folding doors opening onto the decked terrace. Utility / boot room with sink, washer / dryer and American-style fridge / freezer. Bedroom one with 5’ king size bed, bedside tables and wardrobe with hanging and drawer space. En suite shower room with walk-in shower, heated towel rail, basin and WC. Bedroom two with 5’ king size bed, dressing table and wardrobe with hanging and drawer space. Bedroom three with two 3’ twin beds, wall-mounted hanging rail and open shelves, and chest of drawers. Family bathroom with bath with shower over, heated towel rail, basin and WC. OUTSIDE There is a decked terrace with garden furniture. The decked patio sits at the bottom of Brada hill and therefore offers a degree of privacy. A separate table and chairs to the front of the terrace offers a view across farmland to iconic Bamburgh Castle in the distance. A lockable shed provides storage for bikes and outdoor kit. PARKING There is designated private parking for two cars to the front of the property. ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING For safety reasons, we do not permit electric vehicle or hybrid car charging at this property. If you’re travelling by EV, discover your nearest electric vehicle charging point here. BABIES & CHILDREN A travel cot and highchair can be provided on request. DOGS One dog or two small dogs (no bigger than a spaniel) are very welcome but should be kept to the boot room until clean and dry and for sleeping. They must be kept out of the bedrooms and off the furniture. The outside decked area is unfenced therefore dogs should be supervised and kept on leads in this area. GUEST AMENITIES The beds feature high quality linen. A hairdryer is provided in each bedroom. Fluffy towels are provided for use in the cottage. Please bring your own beach towels. WI-FI & MOBILE COVERAGE The apartment has fibre broadband. Mobile reception is limited within the property but the signal improves directly outside. HEATING There is electric underfloor heating throughout the property, with a wood-burning stove in the sitting room. An initial supply of logs is provided. GUEST PRIVACY The lodge sits on a site in a development of 23 exclusive lodges. The lodge is well-positioned at the side of the development nestled at the bottom of Brada hill. The lodge has a decked terrace to the rear with garden furniture and a barbecue. The wider site area is a communal space and as such, certain rules do apply. Guests are permitted to walk to the top of the former quarry where there is a viewing point, however it is important to note that this area is unfenced. Guests do so at their own risk and children will require careful supervision.
The village of Bamburgh sits 2.5 miles away with friendly local shops, quaint tea-rooms, cosy pubs and restaurants as well as miles upon miles of stunning white sands within walking distance it is part of the reason visitors return to this area year-after-year, and why it remains one of the most popular beach destinations in England.
For dining-out, you can enjoy fantastic fresh seafood at The Potted Lobster located in the heart of the village; the Castle Hotel for a hearty pub meal and pretty beer garden; or the Victoria Hotel if you like great pub food and some chat next to the fire. Alternatively try The Wyndenwell for an ice-cream, cake and coffee stop, or the Copper Kettle, a characterful little tea-room serving a selection of freshly baked scones and light-bites. For something a bit more informal en-route to the beach, The Hut sits on the edge of the sand dunes for a delicious bacon butty or a kipper bun.
For provisions, The Pantry is a super deli selling meats, cheeses, preserves, freshly baked bread and smoked fish as well as lots of naughty puddings which all come from renowned local suppliers across the area. For picnics or lunches on-the-go, they will prepare sandwiches on request along with freshly ground coffee, or can arrange for food hampers full of gourmet goodies to be made up for your arrival at your holiday home. R Carter has been the village butchers for 125 years serving only the finest locally produced meat, homemade pies and award winning bacon which is cured and smoked on the premises. The nearest Co-op supermarket can be found in nearby Seahouses.
The beach at Bamburgh is a wonderful spot for families, walkers and water sports enthusiasts. Surfing and windsurfing is highly rated here with waves naturally breaking to the left and right as a result of the numerous sandbars along its length, and while there is no lifeguard cover on this section, it is seen as a safe spot for swimming.
Alternatively, six miles south of Bamburgh, you will find excellent watersports on the golden sands of Beadnell Bay where you can launch boats, rent surfboards, wetsuits and bikes or try your hand at kitesurfing, windsurfing, sea canoeing and waterskiing with accredited instructors.
Sitting in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty within the Lindisfarne Nature Reserve, nature lovers, birdwatchers and photographers will be captivated by the vast variety of wildlife and birdlife at nearby Budle Bay.
Holy Island is also a hot spot for vast numbers of migrant species, including the chance to see the odd grey seal bobbing inquisitively in the sea or basking on the sand flats while sightings of minke whales and white-beaked dolphins can also be spotted here in calm sea conditions.
No visit to this area should go by without a visit to the Farne Islands, and a recent accolade by Sir David Attenborough should leave you in no doubt as to its credentials when he declared it his favourite place in the UK to capture nature at its very best.
Charters from the harbour run every day from Seahouses (weather permitting) and you will be enthralled by the thousands of breeding sea-birds and seals taking up every square foot of this incredible rocky outcrop, including over 37,000 pairs of characterful Puffins.
Walking and cycling in this area is a delight with an abundance of trails and waymarked routes suitable for all ages and abilities. Take the four mile circular walk from Bamburgh to Budle Bay with your four-legged friend, where you can experience amazing sunsets over the bay, or for cyclists, there are family routes, leisure routes, and mountain biking trails with everything from easy coastal stretches to high energy treks.
The whole area is bursting with things to do, dotted by a trail of castles and fortifications interspersed with pretty seaside villages all the way up and down the coast. The skyline is dominated by the dramatic outline of Bamburgh Castle from miles around, and a visit will allow you to experience over two thousand years of fascinating history with dark tales of royal rebellion, turbulent battles, and stories of powerful legend and folklore.
Finally, cross the causeway to Holy Island to trace the legend of St. Cuthbert; head to Craster to sample their legendary oak smoked kippers; visit the beautiful gardens at Howick Hall; or head inland to experience the medieval splendour of Alnwick Castle with its fantastic child-friendly activity programme inspired by the wizardly magic and broomstick antics of Harry Potter.
