I used John's listing for a writing retreat. I knew what to expect for Maine in the off season, so I planned accordingly. John was very communicative and efficiently so. If you plan on staying during the winter, know that the road to the listing is a dirt road and regularly has snow and a couple hilly sections. With fresh powder over some icy patches, I was happy to have AWD. But a car can do it with care. The house itself is exactly as it is shown in the pictures. Ample size for 5-6ppl (though it was just my partner and I for my stay). Also of note: the furniture was comfortable. I point this out because too many listings buy cheap furniture that you can't truly lounge on. The queen bed and couch were super comfy. Large well lit bathrooms, good water pressure, laundry, and a big kitchen are all gems here. The only downside to my stay was that the wood burning stove was not available for use, as it was something I looked forward to. Great stay, would book again!

We were not there to vacation (unfortunately), we were have some remodeling done to our home one town away. The property was as expected and very convenient for us. John was able to allow us a couple extra days stay due to issues at our own home. We were there during a major storm that knocked out power and many services in the midcoast area. But the property has a backup generator that operated like clockwork, there were a number of trees down and branches but the home held strong and we hardly noticed the event other than the sound of wind coming off the Kennebec River. Its a great property and John is a great host - we enjoyed the stay.
