Horseman’s Hideaway is a well-appointed 2 bedroom / 1 bathroom cabin in the popular Timberline Meadows community in the upper Methow Valley – close to Mazama with trails just steps away! Is your dream of an ideal vacation enjoying a cup of coffee in a comfy Adirondack chair, getting out on the trails in the sun or the snow, and then finishing off the evening in front of a warm fire? If so, welcome to Horseman’s Hideaway – your outdoor recreation headquarters at Timberline Meadows. Horseman’s Hideaway is a modern single level cabin with high wood-paneled ceilings and a large west facing deck. The open plan living space features a lounge area with comfortable leather chairs and couch arranged around the gas fireplace, large wooden dining table with seating for 8, and a well-equipped kitchen. The home has recently been updated with mini split air conditioning units for your comfort. The two queen bedrooms are to the rear of the home and have a cozy cabin feel; each has a queen bed and built-in closet. The bathroom has a bath tub with a shower over, and there is a washer and dryer located in the hallway closet. The west facing deck has four adirondack chairs. The Mazama store is about a mile away, allowing you to stock up on gourmet snacks and world-renowned baguettes before heading out on adventures for the day. You can wind down your day at the Mazama Public House. Or watch the day come to a close as the sun sets over Last Chance Point and the North Cascades from the comfort of the living room with its wall of windows or from the Adirondack chairs on the front deck.
We loved our stay, the house is even nicer than on the pictures and is so thoughtful! There were dog toys and dog peanut butter, that was incredibly nice! The beds are extra comfy and warm and the kitchen is well equipped. I hope to return next year, such a lovely place!
We had a great stay here. Everything was comfortable in the cabin and it had a nice view up the valley. We enjoyed walking with our dogs in the common areas and enjoyed the beautiful surroundings.
We've stayed at quite a few of Jim's places and always have a nice experience! Communication is prompt and clear. The cabin was well stocked with amenities and kitchen supplies for a comfortable stay. We love the flexibility to bring our pups. We were also delighted to have access to the pumphouse to wax our skis!
Wonderful clean and comfortable accommodation located is a very peaceful and picturesque location. Cross country and skate skiing trail access basically out the front door. The cabin easily accommodated 4 adults and a small dog and I would definitely come back again.
The Timberline Meadows development, located in the Upper Methow Valley, is home to eight nightly rentals, as well as several private homes. The homes are all nestled in the trees at the edge of the National Forest. The wintertime ‘John’s Way’ cross country ski, snowshoe and fat bike trails connects Timberline Meadows to Mazama and the Upper Methow trail system (permits required in winter), making this a great ski-in / ski-out location, away from the bustle of the Mazama trailhead but close enough to ski down to the store.
The Mazama Store, with its great bakery and ‘a little bit of everything good’ is just a 5 minute drive or 10 minute bike ride from the cabin, and around 20 minutes by ski (depending how fast you slide and glide). Mountain bike and ski rentals are also available in Mazama.
Other local attractions include the Loup Loup Ski Bowl, Winthrop Rink (named one of the 10 best ice rinks in the West by Sunset Magazine and one of the only NHL-sized refrigerated rinks in the country – open for Pickleball and inline skating in the summer), Early Winters Outfitters which features horseback riding is just at the Timberline Meadows turnoff from Highway 20. North Cascades National Park is just west on Highway 20, part of the Cascade Loop. And of course, the Methow Valley is home to the largest cross-country ski trail network in North America with great skiing and abundant sunshine!
Getting here: May to November, from Seattle and the westside, you can drive over highway 20 and Washington Pass (check WSDOT for closures). Alternate, and winter routes from Seattle are via I90, Snoqualmie Pass and Blewett Pass, or highway 2 over Stevens Pass (check WSDOT for driving conditions). Combine these routes and you have the scenic Cascade Loop.
Getting around: It’s a 20 minute drive to the Cutthroat Lake trailhead, 21 minutes to Washington Pass and 27 minutes to Maple Pass trailhead (*drive times according to google maps), making this a great hiking base-camp for exploring the North Cascades and for beating the crowds to the trailhead during larch season.
The old west town of Winthrop is 12 1/2 miles and around 15 minutes drive down valley, with its great shopping, bakery and dining establishments; the Shafer Museum is also worth a visit to learn about the local history. Winthrop has a fun ice skating rink and is the jumping off point for Methow Rafting’s raft and float tubing on the Methow River. Winthrop’s annual calendar of events includes the Rhythm and Blues Festival, Vintage Car Rally, Memorial Day Rodeo, and Christmas At The End Of The Road (check the town’s website for details).
