We had a great trip with our family. Our children 7, 4 and 2 had so much to play with at the house while we weren’t exploring the islands or at the beach. The house is beautifully decorated and has a wonderful beach vibe. The kitchen is well appointed for all cooking needs. Short walk to the beach. Tim the turtle who lives on the property was also a big win for the kids. Thanks for making our paradise without a passport experience perfect!!
What a wonderful place to stay. We actually were saying that this might be one of the most unique houses on the island. So many thoughtful touches—not sure there was anything we would have liked to have that wasn’t already there. From the golf cart to the decor to the board games to our nightly family games of bags in the back yard, this truly made for a wonderful week. Hosts were also super responsive and helpful—would highly recommend.
Charming little cottage. Very detailed. It was walking distance to the beach. Plenty of beach chairs, umbrellas, sand toys.
This was one of nicest airbnb homes we have stayed in! We guess that these owners actually use their airbnb because it was so thoughtfully appointed and tastefully decorated. There was not one beach or kitchen item that we wanted for. It was all here! And the house was spotlessly clean (which is tricky on a Florida barrier island). We also found the owners to be quick to communicate when we had concerns. We hope that this home continues to be carefully attended-to and maintained as it sees more and more visitors. We have stayed in multiple N Cap homes....this is one of the best for its size, accomidations, and value.
This is probably one of the best kept Airbnb rentals we’ve stayed in. It’s tastefully decorated throughout with creative, homey touches. My kids loved the games and the books. They had a yoga mat for sun salutations and a hammock too. The kitchen was small but functional with sharp knives and nice pots and pans. One thing to note is that the bunk room downstairs is not internally connected (you have to use the deck stairs outside), which may be a challenge if your kids are on the younger side. Also it looked like construction work may be starting soon on the adjacent plots. Luckily we didn’t have much construction noise at all (it’s quiet, the breezes splendid), although the whole island sounds of rebuilding and clean-up since Ian. We’d love to see what the progress is in about a year. Overall a magical place in a very special spot.
North Captiva is the perfect place to rest, relax and enjoy the calm, quiet of nature. We suggest the follows must do activities:
- Get up early to watch the sunrise and get first pick of the amazing shells that wash up on the beach.
- Take a walk in the Preserve and be on the lookout for local wildlife such as gopher tortoises, ospreys, bald eagles, bobcats, rabbits, and more.
- Take a chair to the beach at the end of our street or and to any beach on the island and watch for dolphins, sea turtles, and ghost crabs.
- Head over to Mangos or Mainstays to enjoy an ice cream cone or drink at the bar.
- Enjoy the pools, hot tub, or tennis courts at Island Club of North Captiva.
- Take a bike ride or jog down the many sand roads.
- Savor a glorious nap on the sun deck or in the upstairs loft.
- Watch for the sunny day visits of the gopher tortoises who live in the brush next to the house.
- Listen for the arrival and take off of a plane or helicopter on the nearby runway.
- Take a leisurely drive on the golf cart through the island.
- Bring a fishing rod down to the docks and catch a redfish or snook.
- Go down to the beach at sunset and watch for the green flash.
- Stay up after dark and enjoy the amazing night sky lit up with stars.
Getting to North Captiva is simple. Book with one of the local ferries, Island Girl Charters in Bokeelia, FL is what we recommend. You can also come by private boat and will need to book your dockage separately. When you're on the island, use our golf cart to visit different beach access spots and restaurants. We also have bikes to get around.
