This was our second time back to the Millhouse. We stayed 2 weeks and the location was perfect. Downtown Chester is a 2 minute walk to fine dining, delicious pizza, and shops and galleries. Being able to sit outside and see and listen to the waterfall and brook was wonderful and very relaxing. The beds and furniture are very comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped. The house was spotless and easy to get into at check in. Lisa and Maureen were very responsive to any questions we posed. Being there for 2 weeks, it quickly became our home away from home. We would highly recommended the Millhouse and will definitely be back.
This was our second time at Lisa’s house and we’d stay again. Everything about it is wonderful. Thanks
The Millhouse is a beautiful respite that's just steps away from all downtown Chester has to offer! The location could not be better (we walked everywhere!), and the apartment is gorgeous. It was clean, comfortable, and well stocked for our girls' weekend. Check-in was super easy once we took the right turn into the driveway! Can't wait to return when the weather is warm enough to enjoy the outside spaces!
Had a wonderful stay. Home is beautiful and well appointed. Everything we needed was available . Close to all the action in the center of Chester. Beautiful waterfall and creek behind the house. Wished it was warmer so we could have had our coffee outside. Thanks Lisa
We came to Chester for a sister weekend. The house was beautifully decorated, spacious, lots of amenities and well stocked for supplies. It’s convenient to shops and restaurants. The waterfall next to the air bnb is beautiful. The driveway wasn’t plowed and my sister contacted the owner, it was taken care of within the hour. Would definitely return in warmer weather to be able to enjoy the fire pit outside. Highly recommend this air bnb!!!!
"The best small town in Connecticut" (Connecticut Magazine)
Chester Village boasts beautiful shops and critically acclaimed dining. In season, Main street shuts down for an amazing farmer's market on Sundays.
Chester itself sits close to a number of recreational activities. There are great hiking trails not far from here but the best part is walking to town to grab breakfast at Simons, lunch at River Tavern and dinner at Granos! The Connecticut River is just down the street and you can take the historic seasonal Chester-Hadlyme ferry across the river.
"There are many reasons to visit this little slice of heaven in Connecticut. One thing is for sure, once you step into Chester, you will want to stay longer than you had planned." (Only In Your State)
“Solitude when you need it, engagement when you want it. Walden Pond meets Broadway.” (Morley Safer, journalist / past resident)
A bucolic town, pristine and quintessential New England. Pretty much year round this town is a destination place. This truly is one of those towns that makes Connecticut special. (Ann Nyberg's Network Connecticut)
"A compact downtown that’s beautiful, friendly, and cosmopolitan, while hugging close its small-town New England character." (Yankee Magazine)
"a jewel of a town out of a movie set- it reminds me of a quaint village of Provence, theater, galleries and great food". (Jacques Pepin, chef)
"Chester, CT is a cozy little riverside village tucked into the hills near the Connecticut River. Chester, which is a few miles north of Route 95 and Long Island Sound has the feel of a tidy European town." (Travel Guide of America)
"The tiny Artist Colony of Chester, CT. Contemporary artist Sol LeWitt, whose work can be found in most world-class modern art museums made his home here, and many others have followed. It’s the perfect place to pick up handcrafted jewelry, art, clothing, and crafts directly from the artist." (Getaway Mavens)
In 1769, Jonathan Warner was granted permission to operate a ferry across the Connecticut River that became the Chester-Hadlyme Ferry, the second-oldest continuously operating ferry service in Connecticut. Its location is currently a state historical landmark and crosses from Chester to Hadlyme, nearby Gillette Castle, a popular tourist destination with expansive views of the Connecticut River.
The 1959 film "It Happened to Jane", starring Doris Day and Jack Lemmon, was filmed in Chester. Portions of the 1971 horror film "Let's Scare Jessica to Death" were filmed in Chester, including the Chester–Hadlyme Ferry. In 2006, the Chicago Film Critics Association pronounced "Let's Scare Jessica to Death" the 87th scariest film ever made.

My husband Adam and I love to travel and stay at AirBnb’s. As foodies, our destinations always take us to locations with amazing places to eat. Chester Village is one of those small-town places that we have always loved to visit and are now excited that we have a small corner of that we can call our own. “Cute towns” are kinda “our thing” and when we are not out hiking we are exploring, usually looking for a great spot to eat after a long day on the trail. We both have art/design backgrounds and The Millhouse is the next phase in designing our perfect lifestyle.
