I just wanted to say thank you for opening your home to my family and making our stay in Florida the best it could have been. Luis Aveleyra
Great Place if you want to be close to the Ed Smith Stadium . Very comfortable beds and great layout . Will rent again if permitted .
Pros: Overall a clean house and my family was comfortable. Access to beach chairs, umbrella, cooler and boogie board. Cons: House isn’t in the best area with neighbors that have lots of junk in their front yards Every morning starting at about 6 AM you can hear jets landing/taking off. Do not recommend staying here if you’re a light sleeper. Approximately 10-15 minutes from downtown 30 minutes from siesta key beach. Not the best deal all considering. My fault for not doing more thorough research into the area.
Neighborhood with very low traffic, walking distance to Ed Smith Stadium, Sarasota BMX, only 8 minutes to downtown and 10 minutes to the airport! There are many stores and restaurants within 1 mile of the house. Two beautiful beaches are a 15 minute drive away.......Lido Key is close (4 miles) and Siesta Key is 6 miles south.
Historical Attractions:
The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art
Art enthusiasts will be enthralled by this world-class museum, sprawled across 66 acres of meticulously maintained gardens. The museum's architecture, reminiscent of the Italian Renaissance, houses 21 elaborate galleries. Each gallery showcases a wealth of art, including Baroque masterpieces such as Peter Paul Rubens' renowned "The Triumph of the Eucharist" series. A dedicated wing for Asian art is adorned with thousands of intricate ceramics and textiles, offering a visual journey through Asian culture.
The Ca' d'Zan
Transporting visitors to the opulence of the Roaring Twenties, this Venetian Gothic mansion was the winter residence of John and Mable Ringling. Breathtaking views of Sarasota Bay and lavish interiors gleaming with crystal chandeliers, marble floors, and original furnishings captivate the senses. A stroll through the mansion feels akin to a journey back in time, with the grandeur of its past still echoing through its majestic halls.
Historic Spanish Point
Spanning across 30 acres, this open-air museum encapsulates an impressive 5,000 years of Florida's past. Patrons have the opportunity to traverse archaeological displays that depict prehistoric shell mounds, an early settler's dwelling, a chapel, a boatyard, and meticulously cultivated gardens. The narrative of affection and sorrow is beautifully encapsulated in Mary's Chapel, an enchanting white edifice adorned with vibrant stained glass. In contrast, the Webb Packing House and Citrus Exhibit sheds light on the flourishing citrus trade that marked the dawn of the 20th century in the region.
Outdoor Recreation:
Siesta Key Beach
This eight-mile long, crescent-shaped beach is famed for its quartz sand, as cool underfoot as it is white. On its expanse, you'll find people enjoying volleyball, building sandcastles, or simply basking in the sun. As twilight descends, a palette of vivid colors illuminates the sky, crafting sunsets that leave onlookers in awe.
Myakka River State Park
This expansive park, one of the oldest and largest in Florida, showcases a variety of habitats, including wetlands, prairies, hammocks, and pinelands. Visitors can explore the park through a network of trails, perfect for hiking or cycling. From the canopy walkway, one can admire the park's diverse birdlife, including Limpkins, Roseate Spoonbills, and Bald Eagles. The Myakka River, a designated Wild and Scenic River, winds through 58 square miles of the park and is perfect for canoeing or kayaking.
Marie Selby Botanical Gardens
This oasis of more than 15,000 colorful and exotic plants is known for its living collection of rare orchids. In the Tropical Display House, visitors can witness the splendor of the epiphytes, plants that grow on other plants. The gardens also host a variety of birds, including the Red-shouldered Hawk and the Mangrove Cuckoo. The Koi Pond, filled with these ornamental carp, is another serene highlight of the botanical gardens.
Each of these places to visit in Sarasota offers unique elements, promising visitors an array of memorable experiences. Whether you're a history buff, nature lover, beachgoer, or a wildlife enthusiast, Sarasota has something to captivate your interest.
