An artist's detached house tucked away in a small village, a perfect home from home for nature lovers, walkers, history/archaeology buffs, artists and beachgoers. Walk 20 mins. along narrow country lanes and public footpaths to reach the closest beach, Aberbach, for a refreshing dip. Go further along the Pembrokeshire coast path to the north or southwest for ever-changing landscapes, coves and beaches, wildlife and historic sites galore. The stone barn was built around 1850. The house has two bedrooms and is best suited for 2 or 3 people (e.g. friends, a couple, a family of three) but fits 4 at a push. The larger bedroom has a standard double bed and is furnished with a chest of drawers and a clothes rail. The smaller bedroom has an IKEA sofabed with sprung mattress and a topper, a cupboard and a wardrobe. The house was restored in the early 2000s using reclaimed wood and Pembrokeshire oak for the floorboards, the custom-made kitchen and built-in cupboards. There's a multi-fuel stove with a built-in boiler in the living room. This heats the water (but there is also an immersion heater). The bathroom has a roll-top bathtub made by the Albion Bath Company, a good electric shower, an airing cupboard and storage. The kitchen has a gas stove, microwave oven, kettle, toaster, fridge, pots and pans, crockery, cutlery and a retro table in front of the picture window, which extends from 2 to 4 places. Coffee, tea, milk, sugar, eggs and bread will be provided for you when you arrive. The living room is split into two areas: a lounge area in front of the fire and a dining/study area behind it with a generous table that extends to seat four with room to spare. There are plenty of books to read and board games to play. The outdoor space has a gravel patio with garden furniture for 4, a chimnea for chilly nights, a predominantly wild garden with fruit bushes and herbs, and parking directly behind the house. There is no gate between the property and the road. Occasionally there will be farm traffic. There is a rookery directly behind the house. Nearby (15 minutes' walk/2 minutes' drive) is Tregwynt Woolen Mill, which has an EV charging point (and a cafe with a good menu).
The cottage was lovely, and in a beautiful rural setting. Rebecca was very approachable and helpful. We happened to be very lucky with the weather and made the most of the walk to the nearby beach.
We very much enjoyed our stay at the barn. It is peaceful and comfortable, away from the crowds, bit only a short drive away from many places and things to do. Rebecca is a very welcoming host. The home is very cosy with a wood fire and lots of great art and books. Highly recommended for visits to Pembrokeshire.
Very quiet place and very pleasant home, very clean and well decorated. Fresh flowers, coffee, bread and eggs for our arrival. We spent a very good week with our toddler and our baby here, we felt very well in the house, the garden is very sunny during the afternoon. The location is good too, a lot of pleasant beaches in this area. Rebecca is helpful and kind. We recommend this host and this house.
Overall great stay at Rebecca's place! Don't worry about the cottage being listed only for a short period of time and the low number of reviews, here's another genuine 5 star review. Rebecca was very responsive and flexible with our arrival and met us in the evening to let us in personally. The house is super nice, you can use the fireplace and she'll bring you more firewood if needed. Everything is clean and quiet. When we stayed there there was a large group of loud birds around but hey, that's nature for you! :) Absolutely recommend the place if you want explore this part of Wales, you can drive around easily from St Nicholas. Thanks Rebecca!
St Nicholas is a small village of around 25 houses on the Pencaer peninsula. It is a working farming community shaped by the elements, interwoven by pubic footpaths and largely untouched by the modern age. From here you can walk or drive to a rich variety of historic sites (iron age, neolithic) and SSSIs and access the entirety of the coast path (Llwybyr Arfordir Cymru).
There's parking behind the house and overspill parking 20 metres away, both free.
Book a Fflecsi bus, a demand-responsive bus service administered by Transport for Wales, via app or phone.
Service buses currently run along the A487, which is about 20 minutes' walk away.
Fishguard train station is a short drive away. Haverfordwest station is around 20 minutes by car.
