This was perfect for our family and our first vacation I could bring our dog! The house was supplied with little things that were thoughtful like beach blankets, umbrellas, lots games and kitchen was really stocked. It was walkable to the beach, which is a small public access area. It’s a beautiful lake and the kayaks and floating mat were a huge hit with the kids. My only recommendation is to ask for an anchor for the mat. We made wonderful memories there! A great spot for day trips or just spending all day at the lake!

The Bird House is the absolute perfect summer cottage. Located on beautiful Lake Avalon. The house was cozy and comfortable and had absolutely everything you could need or want. My family had the best time and we can’t wait to go back!

Our family had a great stay at Joanna's place. Joanna is a wonderful host, very responsive and is especially helpful. It was very clean, nicely updated, comfortable, and we enjoyed the close lake access. We felt right at home and found it exactly as the listing described. Also liked the quiet neighborhood and large lot to play volleyball and yard games. We took day trips to Mackinac, the U.P., and hiking Ocqueoc falls. Thank you for a great vacation!

We loved our time at The Bird House, which had a perfect balance of modern aesthetic and cozy cabin feel, and we were so happy to be able to bring our pup along for our getaway by the lake. With the crystal clear waters of Avalon Lake only steps away we managed get quite a few paddles and swims. We really appreciated the easy access to kayaks, paddleboards and equipment made available for guests.  With everything we needed for a great vacation right there, we would have been totally content to stay put for our entire stay, though we did venture out for some day trips to enjoy the surrounding area. Paddling to the wreck of the Portland off the coast of Lake Huron at Besser Nature Area was definitely a highlight. Back at the cabin we enjoyed grilling burgers, kicking back in comfy oversized couches and relaxing on the sun porch (a perfect spot for puzzling!) It was a delightful retreat and we'd love to come back. Thank you, Joanna, for being such a gracious and attentive host!
