Second time I stay at Damaris, this time with daughter. Same friendly and helpful Damaris as always. Secure location next to Cuban ministry of exterior. A block from Malecon and nearby great restaurants.. Next to Avenida presidentes. Walk up and see all the beautiful architecture. Walk close to 5 min. to Avenida Paseo and more architecture. It’s a fifty’s Modern kind of style building. Wifi available across from Presidentes at El Presidente Hotel. Purchase a $1US one hour card to connect. The porch is great to have a peaceful meal you can cook. Has a gas stove top. Coming back next october!!!

I can not say enough about my experience at her place. It’s a retro 50’s one bedroom apt with an amazing dining/patio with retro concrete washboard overlooking a good portion of Malecon and retro buildings. You are next to the Ministry of Exterior Affairs headquarters 8 story modern offices. 24/7 armed army guards. Yes. One of the most secured areas in Havana ya’all!!!! Damarys is a jewel of a person. Make this your stay in Havana. You will not regret it. You can walk across street to El Presidente an buy a $1 internet 1hr access and walk in with no hassle from staff.

Damarys and her family were amazing. It was my first time in Cuba, and she was essential to helping smooth the process of arriving and adjusting to the local lifestyle. She has a very warm heart and is definitely trustworthy. She handled all my questions about Cuba and Havana and what to see/do, and arranged airport pickup/dropoff and a city tour so I can see the highlights during my short stay. She came along to guide and translate! The breakfast was great, and I enjoyed the company of Damarys and her husband (the chef) each morning. The location is fantastic for a quiet night's rest and is still close to other parts of Havana. A couple things.. The internet is highly, highly restricted there (only available at parks/hotels and costs about two days salary for 1 hr) and communicating through the website can bring a delay. Their email is unrestricted (via a special smartphone) and works best. I brought a bag of gifts for the family, as it can be difficult to find the necessities due to short supply. If you book and are planning on bringing a gift, they can always use more laundry detergent, toothpaste, and other toiletries! -------------------------------- Damarys y su familia eran increíbles. Era mi primera vez en Cuba, y ella era esencial para ayudar a facilitar el proceso de llegar y adaptarme al estilo de vida local. Ella tiene un corazón muy caliente y es definitivamente confiable. Ella manejó todas mis preguntas sobre Cuba y La Habana y qué ver y hacer, y organizado recogida en el aeropuerto / dropoff y un tour de la ciudad, así que puedo ver lo más destacado durante mi corta estancia. Ella vino a guiar y traducir! El desayuno era genial, y yo disfrutamos de la compañía de Damarys y su marido (el chef) cada mañana. La ubicación es fantástica para una tranquila noche de descanso y todavía está cerca de otras partes de La Habana. Un par de cosas .. El Internet es altamente, altamente restringido allí (sólo disponible en los parques / hoteles y cuesta alrededor de dos días de salario durante 1 hora) y la comunicación a través del sitio web puede traer un retraso. Su correo electrónico es irrestricto (a través de un teléfono inteligente especial) y funciona mejor. Llevé una bolsa de regalos para la familia, ya que puede ser difícil encontrar las necesidades debido a la escasez de suministro. Staying with Damaryas was easily one of the best parts of our trip to Cuba. Her spacious 3 room condo (bedroom, living room, sunroom) was perfect our 3 person group and is a block from the water/malecon. She would show up every morning with her husband to make us breakfast and help us plan out activities for the day! Showed us some of the more authentic spots and helped us avoid the tourist traps. She was so kind and generous with her time. When I had a hard time finding sunscreen, she brought me some from home. By the end of the trip, she felt like she was part of the family! If you're looking to see Cuba like a local, THIS is where you want to stay.
