It is fair to say that the apartment is in the center. It is pretty easy to understand Budapest if you look at a map:
- Most of the things are in Pest, Buda is more residential and there are basically two things to check there: the Castle and the Geller Hill. But those are must see :)
- Pest is basically divided into half circles by the main boulevards or ring roads. If you look at the map it becomes pretty easy to understand.
The outermost half circle around Pest is called the M0, and it is a motorway. It is mainly rural, and you will never get out there if you don't have a car :)
The biggest half circle already inside the city is called "Hungaria ring", and that is more the industrial area.
Almost everything what is interesting in Pest is located inside the third half ring, which is called the "Grand Boulevard", it goes from Margit bridge to Petofi bridge.
And then we have the "Small Boulevard" which is basically the very center of the city. The apartment is located on the Grand Boulevard.

If you arrive at the airport you basically have 2 choices to reach our apartment:
- By taxi (roughly 35-40 EUR / car and roughly 35-50 mins), this is probably the most convenient way. There is a centralized official taxi service from the airport. You just have to walk out from the building and you will bump into a big taxi kiosk on your left where you can talk to a dispatcher who will allocate a taxi for you for a fixed (meter-based) price. Just make sure not to stop for any non-official taxi service providers on the way out, because they will most probably overcharge you. Stick to the official supplier, where they guarantee a fixed price and will not take you on unnecessary detours.
- By public transport (3-5 EUR / person and roughly 45-70 mins), there is a direct bus from the airport to the city center. The bus number is 100E, and you can find more information to buy the tickets online, or you can buy the tickets on the bus as well. The bus runs between 5am and 1:20am from the airport to the center.
If you are coming by car, you are most probably using navigation software. You just have to put the address of our apartment (provided in chapter 3.1.) and the navigation system will get you there. The hard (well, let’s say harder) part will be parking. The apartment is in the city center, where you need to pay for street parking during weekdays from 8am-8pm. The hourly rate is 440 Hungarian forints or some 1,25 EUR-s. In most cases, you will be able to find an empty parking slot within the 100-meter range of the apartment. You can buy parking tickets from the ticket machines (Hungarian forint coins only) or through an application. We use the Simple App. The tricky part is that you can only buy a ticket for 3 hours in both cases, and have to buy a new one once that 3 hours is gone. Pretty annoying. The best solution, in my opinion, is to park the car either in a P+R parking space, where it is free, and ride an underground train to the apartment, or to leave the car in the Arena Plaza mall parking, which is pretty centrally located and the parking is free.
There is no Uber service in Hungary unfortunately, but you can always use the local version of it the Bolt app. For whatever reason, they do not have an English webpage, but the app is pretty straightforward, basically a copy of the Uber app. It will practically get you a taxi, but you can order it through an app, can follow your ride live, can predict the costs, and can pay with a credit card. Again, just like Uber, maybe a bit more pricey.
We really don’t want to push the public transportation system too much, but we truly believe that this is the ideal way of exploring the city. Budapest has 4 underground lines, numerous tram lines, and almost infinite buses :) They run day and night and will get you from A to B safely and super fast, or at least much faster than any other means of transportation. There is a quite easily usable trip planner provided by the Budapest Transport Company (BKK). Or you can use the GMaps trip planner as well. It works just perfectly. Both pages provide the most optimal routes you can choose at the given time of the day.
