Winter, spring, summer or fall, forget your worries & feel your stress melt away in this charming waterfront 🏡. Wake up to glorious sunrises, relax on one of the outside seating areas (with twinkle lights at night), 🏊🏻♀️, float, kayak, BBQ, fish, go boating, ⛳️, hike, nap on the hammock, have a beach/pit fire or simply enjoy the ever changing views from the inside. Fast WIFI & private office shed. Large driveway for a🚤. 🏡 minutes from downtown & perfectly located to explore Maine & Canada. RiverHouse is a traditional Maine farmhouse built in 1840. It sits on an acre of land on the St. Croix, and it is flanked by a cove at each end. It has been totally renovated while keeping its charm, and has amazing water views from every room. There is a private office shed at the water's edge with a sofa-bed for extra guest (summer only). You can access the beach at either side of the property via lit stairs. There’s a rocky beach with a small over-the-water (high-tide) deck. There are 4 adult & 3 youth kayaks and foldable sun loungers for your enjoyment. The tidal river which is more like a bay with its calm saltwater is ideal for swimming, floating, kayaking or SUP. The gravel patio has a dual pallet/gas grill and wrought iron table. There is an outside dining table at the water’s edge large enough for 10. There are several seating areas scattered throughout the property for you to enjoy the magnificent views. There are also several hammocks, a swing bench, a floating deck with wooden sun loungers, and a fire pit with free firewood. At night the trees are bathed in blue light & there are solar lights throughout the property-you’ll feel like your at a resort. RiverHouse is a couple of mins from the St. Croix Country Club (golf course), 5 minute from downtown, the Canadian border (global entry visa appts available) and a nature conservation for hiking, 30 minutes from Eastport, 50 minutes from Lubec and Campobello Island (Roosevelt’s summer home) and 2 hours from Bar Harbor, Bangor and Aroostook County. It is the perfect spot for exploring unspoiled Downeast Maine, “The County” and Canada. INDOORS: 1st floor: LIVING ROOM-fireplace, sofa and chaise, water view with French doors opening to a gravel sitting area. FAMILY ROOM-comfy sectional (large enough for 2 to sleep on), built-in smart TV & electric fireplace. DINING ROOM-open with family room has a large 8 person dining table & French doors open to a gravel patio (I ❤️ having dinner with the doors open enjoying the incredible view). KITCHEN-wall to wall windows, double ovens, dishwasher, and fully stocked with every essentials, and more. You will find in the fridge and pantry complimentary basics such as bottled water, condiments, spices, flour, pasta… SUNROOM-small dining table, sofa and 2 captain chairs, an electric fireplace for those chilly days, and wall to wall windows capturing the spectacular views. FULL BATHROOM: Walk-in shower, ceiling heat, complimentary shampoo, conditioner, lotion & toiletry. Washer & dryer with detergents. 2nd FLOOR: 3 bedrooms all with water views, very comfy beds and electric fireplaces (winter) and fans (summer). There is chaise on the landing, and an upstairs family room off the MBDR with sofas, and a 1/2 bathroom. MBDR-window seat large enough for two with sweeping views of the St Croix and St. Stephens-my favorite spot to read and watch the eagles soar. The queen size bed faces large windows capturing glorious sunrises-can you picture yourself waking-up to such beauty. PINK ROOM-antique iron full bed and comfy overstuffed chair with ottoman. BLUE ROOM-two antique twin beds.
My family of seven stayed at Gabriela's listing this fall. We were so impressed with our stay and all the extra amenities that were included to make our stay feel peaceful and restful. The views are breathtaking! The pictures are just a taste of what you'll discover as a guest. The house had everything we could need for cooking large meals, sitting spaces for games and visiting, and sleeping amenities such as extra blankets and beds. Everyone was a little sad to leave! We hope to stay next year at this home away from home!
Lovely old farm house with beautiful view. You don’t even realize you are on a main road. Very peaceful and enjoyable. May areas to relax and enjoy the view. Gabriela was very quick to respond when needed. We would definitely stay again.
Beautiful location, and big house. We like a previous guest said had some minor issues but the house was built in the 1800s. Floor were uneven and we had a few issues with hurt toes as the house rules says no shoes, which isn’t even logical on old uneven, rough wooded flooring. The beds were comfortable. Not having a washer and dryer was inconvenient and there is only 1 laundry mat around. Overall it’s a nice place just super expensive for a place with no fans, no washer and dryer and plumbing issues.
We had a great stay at this beautiful home on the water! The views of the St. Croix river were amazing. There is a large yard with a grill and plenty of seating options and tables to hang out and eat outside. The house is on a main road, but it is not very busy, and you wouldn't even know it was there when you are sitting in the yard looking out at the river. There were great amenities in the house and kitchen with many different sitting and dining areas for everyone to cozy up in our hang out in the sunroom. Gabriela was a very responsive host. All in all a lovely and peaceful stay!
Calais is your quintessential small American town with shops, restaurants and bars dotting Main St. It sits on the St. Croix River across from St. Stephens and has 3 border crossings to Canada. There’s a movie theater, public library, boat launch, golf course, a waterfront walkway, and concerts are held during the summer at the riverfront park.
The river is saltwater and tidal, flowing into the Bay of Fundy which has the highest tides, and is full of freshwater and saltwater marine life.
Within minutes from the house you have the St. Croix Country Club for you golfers, several hiking areas and beaches. Don’t miss St. Croix Island, Devil's Head Conservation and Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge.
There is limited public transportation but there is a bus that takes you to Bangor daily and from there you can get another bus to Portland, ME. Parking is free everywhere.
