Middleton · 农家仓房 · 1室1床1.0卫 · 可住2人 · The Old Stable at Manor House, Middleton
This cozy, compact accommodation adjoins the original barn at Manor House, a C16 grade II listed farmhouse on the edge of the quiet countryside village of Middleton. An ideal place for couples or solo travellers to explore the best of Suffolk's Heritage Coast with Aldeburgh, Southwold, Dunwich and Walberswick just a short drive away and the coastlines many ‘AONB’s as well as several ‘Sites of Special Scientific Interest’ - and literally just down the road from the RSPB’s flagship Minsmere. The Old Stable is a ‘small but perfectly formed’ two-story, one bedroom accommodation with an open plan ground floor with well-equipped kitchenette, dining table & chairs plus comfortable seating. There are French doors leading onto a patio area. Upstairs there is a kingsize bed with bedside tables, a storage cupboard, an ensuite shower room and two Velux windows (where, on a clear night, from one of them - as Middleton is a ‘dark skies’ village - you can stargaze while laying in bed!). This small space offers a practical, quiet and comfortable base to explore Suffolk for two people. Sorry - we are unable to accommodate pets. Ground floor: Stable door with leaded light takes you to stairs on your left or straight ahead into the open plan area. Kitchenette: Electric oven, fridge, toaster, kettle, dishwasher, cooking equipment, crockery, cutlery etc. Dining table and two chairs. There is also a two-seater and a single easy chair for relaxing. Bookshelf with books, local maps, games etc. Digital radio. Wifi. 24" TV and DVD player (with small selection of DVDs). Upright radiator. Two windows onto front garden with bird feeding station. French doors to small private patio area. First Floor: Kingsize bed, 2 bedside tables, Half-height storage cupboard, wall hooks & hangers for clothes (NB: there is no wardrobe), upright radiator, Velux window above bed enables you to stargaze if you wish (Middleton is a ‘dark skies’ village)! The upstairs ceiling is sloped to the sides - but because of the position of the bed & cabinets, you do not need to duck in order to move around upstairs. Bathroom: Wash basin, WC, enclosed shower. Mirrored wall cupboard with light. Velux window and radiator. There is an internal window into the barn enabling you to watch the swallows up close without disturbing them when they are ‘in residence’ and a stunning specially commissioned local artist’s handmade leaded light window between the bedroom/bathroom depicting swallows in flight. Outside: French doors at the rear lead to a small outside seating area for exclusive use, with bistro table and two chairs (cushions for chairs are stored inside). Parking is at the front of the accommodation - next to the open woodstore (where the keys lockbox is situated).
Great small, quiet home which suited us perfectly as we were exploring the area. House was very clean and everything well explained. A great end to our week in Norfolk and Suffolk which we really did not know.
Amazing stay! The cottage was immaculate and well equipped with everything we needed for a lovely and relaxing stay. Great walks and beautiful areas to explore nearby as well as lovely pubs and beaches. Would highly recommend!
Wonderful weekend, location great between Aldeburgh and Southwold lots of great villages in between. The accomodation was immaculate and we had everything we could possibly need. thanks so much great hosts. Karen and Ian
Absolutely loved it here. Small as described but with everything you could possibly need. Mandy and Steve's garden is really lovely to wander around too. And the welcoming cake was just....well, the icing on cake.
This is an especially convenient countryside location to explore the East Coast of Suffolk. The area here is perfect for walking, birdwatching, cycling with many individual pubs & restaurants well worth visiting.
Middleton itself is a small, quiet and picturesque countryside village - we have an artisan Chocolate Maker's (Tosier) Shop/Café just across the road from the Old Stable. In the village centre there is the friendly Adnams pub, The Bell, which serves locally-sourced food (NB check their website for current opening hours). Five minutes' drive away is the village of Westleton which has a couple of pubs, a Post Office/Store with café and a garage which sells fuel. Please note there is no public transport through Middleton itself.
Leiston is our closest main town (3 miles away) which has a supermarket (East of England Co-Op), Chemist, Butchers, an excellent fresh fruit&veg shop - Platts, and a variety of other town amenities including a Leisure Centre.
We are right next to the RSPB’s world-famous Minsmere site where you can see some of the UK’s rarest wildlife - an impressive variety of birds, including avocets, bearded tits and bitterns. Otters are also frequently seen by visitors in the reedbeds.
We are halfway between the two most well-known Suffolk coastal towns of Aldeburgh to the south, and Southwold to the north of us. Both are worth a visit and have excellent seaside amenities.
Benjamin Britten's Snape Maltings Concert Hall and Arts Complex is near to us on the banks of the River Alde.
There is no public transport in Middleton itself but our nearest train station is Darsham on the Ipswich-Lowestoft line (10mins drive away). If you want to get around to other villages and locations easily and without walking, you will want your own car. There is plenty of parking space directly in front of The Old Stable, on an unmade hardstanding area.

We took retirement in Suffolk with the intention of making a garden out of the 1+ acre plot of overgrown wilderness here and inadvertently took on the renovation of a Grade II listed farmhouse...both of which are ongoing! So finding ourselves as full-time gardeners & renovators, my husband Steve and I can usually be found outside working in the garden, up a ladder, or walking and exploring new routes around the Heritage Coastline of Suffolk.
