This is a bright, comfortable and spacious house offering a wonderful base for exploring the North Norfolk coast line and surrounding market towns. Burnham Thorpe is a quiet village with Burnham Market, Wells next the Sea and Holkham within easy reach The Old Bakery was completely renovated and refurbished in 2015. Among other things central heating and lots of insulation were added making it a warm and cosy retreat in the winter. Also there is a woodburner, with logs provided. Guests have found it an ideal place for three generation holidays. It is a bright and comfortable spacious base from which to enjoy a North Norfolk holiday. Upstairs can accommodate six people in three bedrooms (one king, and two sets of twin beds). Also upstairs there are two bathrooms - one full bathroom and one shower room with WC. Downstairs an additional two people can sleep on the sofa bed in the study. There is a smart TV and DVD player. There is a large living room with two comfy sofas and a large dining table and a wood burner with dry logs provided. The modern kitchen also provides a table and seating. The old bread oven is in the downstairs hallway, the hallway has space to store bikes or pushchairs or sailing paraphernalia. Off of this hallway is a third shower room and a separate utility area with a Belfast sink, washer/dryer, airer, iron and ironing board. A travel cot, booster seat and high chair are available for use. We have a strict no pets policy because of family allergies so however well behaved your lovely pet is I'm afraid it isn't welcome. At the front of the house there is a private garden, with outside seating and tables and a disposable BBQ. There is off-road parking for 2-3 cars.
Came away to Norfolk for a quiet family holiday with two young children. The location of the Old Bakery is fantastic for visiting the coast and exploring the local area from the peaceful village of Burnham Thorpe. On the few days we spent here we were able to easily reach out to Sandringham Estate, Holkham House, Wells Next The Sea and Hunstanton The house is spacious and perfect for sheltering from the Norfolk showers, with the supplied games keeping the children entertained. When the sun came out the cottage garden is perfect for enjoying the sun surrounded by the flowers. Our children really enjoyed visiting the horses in the neighbouring field and having the play park across the road to themselves. Was an enjoyable stay in a clean and comfortable cottage, with modern facilities and period character. Frances was great communicating with us and great for providing directions to the cottage. Many thanks Frances.
Lovely cottage and fab place to stay to explore North Norfolk. The local pub, the Lord Nelson was an excellent choice for Sunday lunch . The garden is lovely, well kept and a beautiful space to soak up the sun but maybe bring your own chairs if you have elderly people in your party as we found the ones provided were very old and quite unstable. The cottage was well equipped, tidy and clean with Frances being very quick to respond to any requests. We would definitely stay here again
Burnham Thorpe, birth place of Horatio Nelson, is a quiet and beautiful village close to the North Norfolk coast. Just a hop, skip and a jump to the Holkham Estate, Burnham Market, Burnham Overy Staithe, Wells, Brancaster, and a whole host of other top spots. Ideal for walking, bird watching, seal spotting, sailing and days at the beach.
In the village you can also find a display about Nelson in the church, there are Nelson tea towels and mugs for sale.
Across the road from the house's garden is the village playing field with an array of equipment to keep little ones entertained. The Lord Nelson pub across the playing field is now owned by the Holkham Estate. Woodfordes has taken the lease of the pub and is now open serving drinks and meals.
The Coastal Hopper bus service, stops approximately 1.5 miles away from the house, it is now operated by two separate bus companies. Kings Lynn to Wells is operated by Lynx it is the Coastliner No 36 and Sanders Coaches operates from Wells to Cromer as the coasthopper. The buses are great for walking the coastal path and getting back to your starting point.
Exploring the area by bicycle is easy as National Cycle Route 1 passes through the village, and the network of footpaths should keep the walkers happy.
