Fab house for what we wanted . Beds so clean & comfy. Lovely barn
I went for a weekend away with friends. We were a group of 12 which worked out perfectly as we could all have a bed to ourselves. The property is so beautiful. The beds were really comfortable and the bathrooms were in great condition. We all felt at home straight away. We focused ourselves in the main barn area to socialise, but were split between the barn and the cottage to sleep. This worked really well. The place is decorated so nicely with lots of nice touches that make it feel home from home. There were clear instructions for everything but if we did need to contact Simon he always extremely prompt with replying. Prior to our stay he was always helpful with any questions I had. I would definitely recommend staying here with friends or family. If I ever come back to the area, I would be sure to look this up again! Thanks Simon 🙂
Simon’s place is very impressive and good for large groups. Best to put any noise sensitive folks in the back part of the barn. Great outside areas to sit in, both sides, and some lovely walks nearby. Simon also kindly sent something that we left behind in one of the beds - the dreaded missing airpod scenario!
We had a lovely family weekend. The house and garden were perfect for the occasion. Thank you Simon and Beth

The Long Barn is surrounded by open fields and horses, with just one neighbouring farmhouse.
It lies on the edge of Gilwern, a large village with convenience stores/butchers/chippie and pubs.
Gilwern neighbours The Brecon and Monmouthshire Canal, which runs 30 miles with fabulous views, along the side of the Usk Valley offering boat trips, canoeing, walking and cycling.
Further afield:
Pretty Crickhowell [10 mins by car, 1 hour on foot] has one of the best high streets in Wales, with all small independent stores [including the famous 'Bookish' cafe/bookshop.
Abergavenny [roughly equidistant] has real grown-up supermarkets, a covered indoor market, castle, meadows, and train station.
Brecon [30 mins. by car, 1hr 40 by bike] is a county town with all the above, canal, theatre and gateway to the highest Beacon Pen-y-Fan.
Even further, but easy day-trips, are Hay-on-Wye, Talgarth, Monmouth, Ross and Hereford. Plus the fabulous Wye Valley and Forest of Dean.
Parking is plentiful - 4cars on site, any more safely along the road.
For most purposes you will need a car or bikes - public transport is sparse, although there is a bus from Abergavenny to/from Gilwern.
Walking is of course what many come for, although the best walks start a couple of miles away.
