Awesome location, very walkable and a beautiful view of the ocean from the room. Nice restaurant and bar on site. Only issue is if you’re trying to sleep on a weekend night before 2am because the club upstairs is loud! Otherwise, highly recommended.

Sonder is a company: although supportive, caring and diligently trained, not all their employees speak English well, so it might be hard to get clear directions and support. I stayed at The Beacon on Ocean Ave, a historic hotel and location, so if you have a car, be ready to pay $50 more per night for their coveted valet parking. It’s at the end of the pulsing activities of the Santa Monica ocean front, one block NW of Santa Monica Blvd, with Ocean Ave following the high cliff overlooking the beach. It’s a vintage building, so not everything in the luxurious rooms can be remodeled: one of the units had thermostat issues and even after I figured out how to set the bath to cold, the water would still oscillate from scalding hot to lukewarm. The small hotel arcs around its central pool and hot tub, has a high-class restaurant in the lobby and a techno club on the roof packed with rich people (cheapest drinks $20); I’m guessing the music might get a bit thumpy if you’re on the 6th floor.

Fairly nice stay, be advised rooms are smaller than expected also only the suites have couches. If you book a room on a higher floor take into consideration one elevator is under construction and the operating one takes forever to reach your destination. Me and several other guests waited at least 7 minutes before we decided to take our luggage and walk up to stairs to our rooms. During the three days I was at this location i didn’t see one guest who was successful when it came to calling the elevator.

My partner and I had a great stay at Sonder The Beacon. We weren't able to do a contactless check-in. But check-in was easy at the reception desk. The hotel is older but has been renovated. Our room was on Level 5 with beautiful ocean views. It was amazing. The room was nice and big. The bed was very comfortable but it was a double, not a queen (but maybe Australian bed sizes are different to US). The pool area was so nice to relax in with chairs and towels available. The hot tub wasn't hot though (I assume it's supposed to be heated). The location is perfect, we couldn't have asked for something better. Parking was expensive so we parked in free street parking about a 15 minute walk away. There was only one working lift which was very slow and could only fit two people. One big complaint of Sonder is the noise from the rooftop bar. It is very very loud and the bass from the music shook our room quite a bit. It closes very late. If you're a light sleeper, ask for a room on a low level
