Shoreham by Sea is a lovely small town on the South Coast of England near Brighton with a slightly villagey feel. There are plenty of pubs, cafes and small independent shops, a good farmers market the second saturday of the month and the Ropetackle Arts Centre that shows films, music and comedy. The river Adur flows through the town and out to sea. To get to the beach you cross a beautiful glass footbridge from which you get spectacular views, particularly at sunset. Its home to a wide range of sailing and fishing boats and a wonderfully eclectic community of 50 houseboats that line the south side of the river to the right of the footbridge. Its a lovely flat walk or cycle ride along the river path towards Bramber and Steynning and there is a lovely cycle path beside the sea all the way to Worthing ( see my Guide book for places to eat. )
Shoreham beach is a protected nature reserve, largely pebble with sand at low tide and lots of wild flowering plants. Its popular with swimmers, paddle boarders and kite surfers and is much quieter than Brighton beach.

Parking-
Free on my road but also a cheap car park is less than 1 min walk from my house. Download the app, ( Sunday costs £1.00) Park on the yellow line opposite my house all day on Sundays and any day between 6pm and 8am, almost always space.
Cycling
Lovely easy cycle rides along the river Adur to Steynning and Bramber ( both pretty). The South Downs has numerous footpaths and wonderful walks and cycle trails, some steep.
There is a lovely cycle route all the way to Worthing beside sea, it passes Wudewater Lagoon and the Perch cafe on Lancing Beach. The cgcle path to Brighton is not as nice, it starts from the harbour lock but theres a long industrial stretch before Hove Lawns.
Bus
Avoid the hassel and expense of parking in Brighton, leave the car here and take the train (quicker) or 700 bus into Brighton
700 to Brighton takes about 25 to 30 mins and runs every 12 mins. Get from outside The Duke of Wellington pub or the small co op on the High St. 700 Worthing stop is opposite. Buy a 'day rider', cheaper and you can get on and off multiple times.
Trains
To Brighton take 19 mins direct, or change at Hove, about 4 an hour. To London its 75 mins direct to Victoria.
