Riverside Cottage is part of a historic 19th century terrace & affords views of Craggy Wood behind Staveley. The River Gowan runs directly outside and there are a variety of stunning walks from the front door. The cottage is conveniently just a stone's throw from a cosy pub with beer garden, a playground & all of Staveley's amenities which include a Spar, microbrewery, artisan bakery, gelato shop to list just a few. The cottage also has the benefit of having been recently updated throughout. Perfect socialising space in the open plan lounge, dining and kitchen area complete with a stylish log burner and oak and slate floors. To the rear of the property you will find a well equipped family bathroom and access to the enclosed bbq patio area complete with teak furniture. There is also a secure slate shed where you can store bikes if you wish. On the first floor you will find a king and double bedroom both with recently fitted ensuite shower rooms. The second floor is a twin room with a den area with TV/DVD and beanbag armchairs. A baby cot is also provided, should you need it. Please do note that guests staying in the twin room on the 2nd floor do not have an ensuite so will need to use the family bathroom on the ground floor.
We loved the cottage -it was beautifully decorated, and also so comfortable. We already know Staveley, and love it...but the location so close to the Eagle and Child pub , and with views of Craggy Woods was fab! Lots of great dog walks close by. We had a meal at the Eagle and Child which was great, and some wonderful bread from the bakery, and delicious ice cream from across the road! Hope to be back soon. :)
The location of this cottage was great and it was so comfortable. Enjoyed the fire at evenings after a day of walking. The cottage is within a small community that still has locals living and working in it, which was nice. It was away from the hustle and bustle of other villages in the Lake District, but still close enough to visit. Having a beautiful river and walkways right outside the door was a bonus, as well as a few nice cafes, restaurants, and chocolate shop! Duffins had fantastic coffee and hot chocolate. I easily walked over the hills from Staveley to Windermere and jumped in the tarn at the top! And caught the 555 bus back ... so easy ... just leave the car parked! We wish we could have stayed longer.
We really enjoyed Ian's place. Great location in a peaceful village. There is a great bakery, cafe and a brewery less than 5 minutes away. The place was spotless, well equipped, clean. Location is great for making quick trips to nearby attractions which we took full advantage off. We will likely be back and can highly recommend Ian's place.
Great location as a base for exploring the lakes. Riverside Cottage has been tastefully modernized while retaining its character and charm. The wood burner was very welcome after coming in after a day on the hills. We found the local people in Staveley super friendly and would particularly recommend the local brewery for a fab atmosphere and warm welcome. Ian was responsive and helpful in every way. We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay.
At the end of Gowan Terrace is the Eagle & Child pub with it's riverside beer garden - and Staveley's children's playground. A short 2-minute stroll into Staveley village conservation area will take you past Kimi's gelato (hard not to be enticed by the stunning flavours), the Post Office, well stocked SPAR store and the excellent Hayton's traditional butchers...carry on along Main Street for quirky cafe 'eclec' and the faultless chippy! Turn into the 19th Century historic Mill Yard and you'll find many thriving craft, foodie and mountain sport orientated businesses including; Wheelbase Cycles, the Blind Chocolatier, Hawkshead Brewery, More? artisan bakery (and yes, you will want more!). Tucked away you'll also find the brand INOV-8 (hike & fitness) 'forge' flagship store. Fields, farms and fells and long views to surrounding crags and scars providing an attractive rural backdrop! Staveley village is the only access point to the Kentmere Valley and the classic ‘Horseshoe Round’ which can be done in a day! This ultimately residential and post-industrial village has so much to offer for families, hikers, mountain bikers, road cyclists and fell runners alike -who want to avoid the main tourist centres, yet still have everything the Lake District has to offer literally on the doorstep.
The village centre is just a short stroll over the footbridge directly outside the cottage. The frequent 555 bus route (some with open top) from Kendal to Keswick passes along Main Street through Staveley and is ideal for visiting the main towns and villages of the National Park. The nearest bus stop is just outside the pub at the end of Gowan Terrace.
Staveley train station is around the corner from the cottage, at the end of The Banks and is just one stop away from Windermere.
