The Weardale Way passes through the owner’s grounds and is a very popular route, as is the short walk into the centre of St John’s Chapel. Boasting two village pubs, a tearoom, café and small supermarket, St John’s Chapel has a thriving community that offers a great welcome to visitors all year round. Only 12 miles from Stanhope, guests also have the opportunity to explore this popular Weardale town and take a visit to the Dales Centre which offers plenty to see and do. Killhope Lead Mining Museum is another popular destination for families and is only a little over 5 miles away and definitely worth a visit. Also recommended is a trip to the small Cumbrian town of Alston which shares the title of being the highest market town in England. Alston boasts tearooms, a farmers market and local pubs, and is a popular stop off for cyclists enjoying a ride through the counties of Northumberland, Cumbria and County Durham. A little further afield but still within around an hour’s drive, guests can visit the cathedral city of Durham, the Lake District and Northumberland National Park.
