To be honest, I struggled with whether or not to write this review and publish it on Airbnb, or if I should just bury my feelings and move on. Ultimately, I felt that writing a fair assessment is important for anyone else considering staying at this property in the future, and so I'll provide my transparent thoughts. Pros - Communication: with the host, Fay, was wonderful. She was prompt to respond to questions, proactively texted us, gave us accurate directions, and even warmed up the cabin before our arrival. - Location: the proximity to the town of Weaverville was great. The cabin is on a small road, but is less than a mile from the main road in town where the restaurants are. Also just a few miles to fishing on the Trinity River, which is why we made the trip. - Accessibility: we arrived to a few inches of snow on the ground, but the roads were accessible and the snow was plowed or melted quickly. - Space: for two guys on a fishing trip, there was plenty of square footage for us to bring in suitcases, rig up our rods in the evening, and maneuver around each other without issue. The ceilings are tall, the wood windows are beautiful, and the garden area was truly magical after two fresh inches of snow fell overnight. Cons - Price: the price is just too high for the size and quality of accommodations offered. For my father and I to stay here for 2 nights, December 28th and 29th, the total bill was $951 after nightly rate, cleaning, service, taxes. For this price, we expected really wonderful accommodations, and when that didn't happen, all the other flaws of the place really stood out and irked us. - Bathroom: the tile job, and specifically the caulking job, was juvenile. The tile grout in the shower was badly stained or dirty. The bathroom sink was installed incorrectly and the hot water faucet moved out of sync with the cold water faucet. There was no body soap in the shower or any of the cabinets, just shampoo and conditioner. - Kitchen: there is a reverse osmosis filter under the kitchen sink. This is great for getting safe, clean water to drink. The only bummer for us was that we must have used the last drop in the tank just before bed and the machine ran loudly for more than two hours in the middle of the night, keeping me awake. - Heating: the heating for this space is insufficient for a cold night like we had. In the evening, the giant windows are beautiful, but they let in lots of ambient cold. The first night we were there, we sat watching the TV with full down jackets and fleece pants on because we were so cold. We plugged in one space heater, which helped. But then upon plugging in the second space heater, we promptly blew a fuse. I had to wander around the outside of the house in the snow to find the breaker panel and flip the breaker. Then sleeping up in the loft was unbearably hot (sweaty and sweltering) while the heaters were chugging along to keep the downstairs room warm. - Bedroom and Loft: this house lives really a 0-bedroom, 1-bathroom cottage. The main living space doubles as a bedroom, and then there are two small twin beds up in a loft. Getting up to the twin beds is pretty treacherous on a small ladder with one handrail. You're climbing up more than 10 feet in the air, and underneath you is a hard tile floor if you fall. I was a decent top-rope rock climber in my younger days, and still felt nervous as I gingerly crawled from the ladder into the loft each night. After cooling off for more than a week after the trip, I'm still left with the feeling that all these negatives are things I could live with and would let roll off my shoulder. None of them were deal-breakers; we felt safe and the cottage was truly a decent shelter for our nights. But these negatives just aren't things that I could vouch for and recommend to others at this price point. If the listing were $149 a night, it would have seemed to be priced at a fair rate. But at $356 a night, I felt that we got a raw deal. This is nothing personal against the property manager Fay, who was lovely to deal with.
This was a great stay without a doubt! Fay is a great host and very responsive. I would definitely recommend this beautiful cabin for a great getaway to connect with nature. Even though town isn’t far away it feels like you are deep in the woods. The cabin was clean and cozy. Will definitely be coming back in the summer and next Christmas!
Our stay at the cabin was amazing. We had a great time. The cabin has such an “at home” feel about it. The views are great with lots of windows to see all the wildlife and beautiful trees. Our kids loved running around the little field below the cabin. It’s in Weaverville but feels secluded, even though the the market is just 4 minutes away. Everything is great about this cabin including the host, Fay is an awesome host! I Definitely recommend if staying in trinity, stay at this cabin.
