Wigtown · 民居里的独立房间 · 1室1床2.0卫 · 可住2人 · Cosy stay in book lover's paradise
Our home is a 300-year-old character house in the centre of Scotland's National Book Town. Wigtown is brimming with bookshops and has excellent cafes, antique and curio shops and a gallery. Located on the South West Coastal 300 route, it is perfectly nestled in between beautiful coastal scenery and the Galloway Hills, and boasts excellent access to outdoor activities, the Dark Sky Park, and local whisky and gin distilleries as well as the annual Wigtown Book Festival. We live in the property year-round, and will be present during your stay as we both work (quietly) from home. Your stay includes private use of an upstairs double bedroom and shared use of both the main upstairs bathroom with shower and bath and the downstairs wet room with shower and toilet. The bedroom has a double bed with all bed linen and towels provided as well as hanging space in a built-in wardrobe and a chest of drawers in the room. Use of the kitchen and dining room during breakfast is encouraged and basic breakfast items such as bread, cereal, fruit, milk, fruit juice, tea and coffee are included in the cost of your stay. Hot, cooked breakfasts can be provided and paid for separately, by arrangement with the hosts. Use of the kitchen after breakfast can be arranged with us, but generally speaking we encourage you to take advantage of all the wonderful places to eat in the area as we're not suitable as fully self-catering accommodation. There is a washing machine and tumble dryer that guests can use if needed, and are included in the cost of your stay. Use of the comfortable living room and wood burning stove is also included. The accommodation comes with access to a large garden with garden furniture and a hammock (weather-permitting!) and a writing studio at the end of the garden. The studio is furnished with a sofa, comfortable chairs, a writing desk and books, and it comes with wifi and mains electricity. It has a small kitchenette with fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster, so it's suitable for daily use and preparation of snacks. Car parking is free and usually very easy to manage right outside the house, although during the annual book festival it's notoriously tricky to find a space in the very centre of the town so do bear that in mind if booking for the end of September or beginning of October. *We have a very fluffy cat called Oscar who lives with us, and is an indoor cat, so this listing is unfortunately not suitable for people with cat allergies or wishing to bring their own pets. The room is otherwise suitable for a single person or a couple who expect to make use of the writing studio or be out most days enjoying the wonderful local scenery and tourism opportunities. Due to the age and chracter of the property, this listing is regrettably not suitable for wheelchair users. People with mobility or access needs should note that the listed room is on the first floor, up a flight of wooden stairs. People with disabilities and/or chronic illness are encouraged to contact us to discuss the space in relation to their needs to see how we can help them with their stay.
Highly recommend this stylish home in such a stunning location. We were made very welcome and comfortable, and really appreciated the generosity of our hosts in making us feel at home in their own house.
Gillian's house is absolutely lovely and we were made to feel right at home from our hosts' welcome and the helpful guest guide in the room. Gillian and Craig are relaxed hosts which added to our sense of relaxation. As did their gorgeous tart of a cat, Oscar!
Our stay with Gillian and Craig was a wonderful way to experience Wigtown Book Festival and to discover some of the walks and sights in the surrounding area. Our room was comfortable and Gillian and Craig were generous in sharing their beautiful home and local knowledge with us. Breakfast was lovely and Oscar the cat was friendly and very chatty! Thank you for your amazing hospitality and all the home comforts!
What a place! The bed is so soft, for the first moment I thought it might be a water bed, so comfy. Gillian and Craig are absolutely lovely, so generous and thoughtful, and it is a book lover's dream. I'm turning my review up to 11!
This is probably my best AirBnB experience. Perfect location. Elegant and tastefully decorated house, spotlessly clean and ideally situated and mere minutes from all the Wigtown Book Festival events. Bedroom nice with a comfortable double bed. My hosts, Gillian and Craig, were charming, knowledgeable and helpful. I knew at once I was at home from home and that I was in for a most agreeable time. I have no hesitation in recommending without reservation. An additional resident is Oscar the cat, who is also very nicely natured. Only those with feline allergies should look elsewhere.
Wigtown is in a beautiful location and has a plethora of bookshops and an annual book festival as it's Scotland's National Book Town. Perfect for bookworms! It also has an award-winning cafe so perfect for coffee and cake-lovers too.
Wigtown is perfectly accessible by car. Rail travel will only take you as far as major centres like Dumfries (55 miles away), Stranraer (26 miles away), or Barrhill (24 miles away). Bus connections from there and other locations are available to Wigtown and services, prices and times can be checked online. Travel from Ireland is best done via the Belfast-Cairnryan route.
自我介绍
Hello, we're Gillian and Craig! We hail from Dumfries and Stockport respectively and have lived in Wigtown since 2018. Craig is a home-based web developer and designer who occasionally makes board games and birdhouses. Gillian is a book industry freelancer who does editorial and commercial work, mostly from home. We share the house with our ten-year-old Ragdoll cat, Oscar. Gillian adores him. Craig tolerates him, mostly.
