If you’re looking for a safe, authentic Jamaican experience this is it! Easyman's cottage is one of the very few self-contained properties close to Winnifred beach. You will have use of the entire place and yard which makes it very private. The cottage is a short (10-15 minutes) walk through the rainforest to the famous Winnifred beach where your only company along the way will be the local birds. You will be close to the A4 for catching route taxis to Boston and Frenchmans cove (10 mins). Our cottage is a great place to unwind and ‘get away from it all.’ It’s a cabin in a woodland, nature is all around-you will see insects and lizards and birds. We have high speed wifi from Flow for online working. This is Jamaica as you dream it should be and often isn't. Escape the busy resorts and relax on our two verandas, one front (watch the sunset) and one back (watch the sunrise). The cottage is safe, private and secluded however it is situated on Winifred community land with friendly neighbours all around who will look out for you and be happy to chat. You can build a camp fire in the fire pit under the shade of the SweetWood tree, pick your own ackee for breakfast and have it with local village eggs (organic free range) from the shop next door. If you’re lucky you’ll get soursop and bananas too. Cleveland can supply you with fresh fruits and juices with 24 hours notice. Please note that there are two bedrooms each with an en-suite bathroom and a small kitchenette with gas rings and a fridge. If you are only two people not wanting a room each you can book the rooms separatley (cabin Room and cottage room). You will not have acess to the second room if you do this. The cabin is situated off the main road between Port Antonio and Boston and it's about a 20 minute ride in a route taxi (cost J$250) to bustling Port Antonio and a 5 minute ride to Boston beach (J$200), The Blue Lagoon, Frenchmans cove and San San Beach (you can also walk to all these beaches its about 30 mins away). This is an ideal location to explore Portland without the heat and noise of other areas closer to town (Port Antonio). If you want comfort, space, privacy and a great location look no further. We can also arrange excursions to all the waterfalls, rafting on the Rio Grande and walking in the Blue Mountains, Moore town and Nonsuch. Cleveland grew up on the River and knows all the rafting captains and will organise everything for you. Please make a special note of the fact that this is a partially off grid cabin, ie it is rustic, the eves are open to allow airflow. It is not a sealed air-conditioned hotel room! For some this is ideal, and for some it is not. Please read all the information and dont book without fully understanding that this is REAL Jamaica where people live very close to nature. You'll see all sorts of birds and we think its paradise. If there are water outages which are common in Jamaica we have a water tank operated by pump. When this happens there is a necessity to be careful with the water.
Wonderful small cabin with a kitchen perfect for our needs. Within walking distance through beautiful lush forest to the nicely maintained Winnifred beach. Right near a convenience store, dinner spot and vegetable/fruit vendor, this location is easily walkable and gives very fun neighborhood vibes. You can hear the music from a nearby bar filter through the symphony of crickets, whistling toads and cicadas, along with other slice of life type of noise typical to Jamaica. There are fruit trees on the property, so we got to enjoy a fresh coconut, ackee, and a guava from the yard. It is close to the main road and there is some normal neighborhood noise associated with that, but this means that the location is very convenient for day trips and walking to gorgeous beaches.
It was an absolute joy to stay at Easyman’s place for 1 week. Portland is a natural paradise, hidden away from the main tourist spots it feels like authentic Jamaica I loved being surrounded by nature, all the tropical plants, trees & animals. The neighbourhood felt safe & friendly, music plays loud through the night if you want to go for a drink at the many small bars along the road The cabin is simple but has everything you need. Kitchen is well equipped, bed is comfy (with mosquito net), cold shower is refreshing, fan keeps you cool at night… Yes there are a couple of bugs but this is natural living! Winnifred Beach is just a 10-15 min walk through the forest…. It’s not a luxury beach but a beautifully natural beach which I walked to everyday! I enjoyed swimming in the crystal clear sea & the home made jerk chicken from Doreen’s is delicious If you want an escape from the city, to enjoy the simple beach life & to connect with nature - I highly recommend this place
très bon séjour. Très bien accueillies. Cleveland à été d'une grande aide et on l'en remercie. Nous recommandons cet hébergement!
We traveled as a family with 2 children. When we arrived and saw the cottage we were very disappointed. It is not a rustic cabin. everything is old and worn, shabby. We booked 7 nights but left after one night. This is not a 2 bedroom cottage. it’s two separate rooms with a bathroom. One of the rooms also had a kitchen. This was not apparent before booking. My kids were afraid to sleep in their part (they had to lock it themselves). So my husband and I had to sleep separately with one child each. The lock of the front door was broken and could not always be locked so I had to sleep half of the night with the door open. Didn’t feel safe. I have been to Jamaica many times and I know that you often have insects in the house. but this was not the same.Between the roof and the wall is a huge gap. That's why you can't turn the lights on in the evening without a variation of different insects coming in, gathering on the bedside lamps. In the kitchen was a very shabby kettle with plants in it. the owner said the previous person had left the kettle like that. In the old worn kitchen there was an old dishcloth and old sponge. It all looked disgusting and old. Under the veranda was an old toilet, sink, empty paint buckets and plastic bottles. This accommodation is worth at most 20 euros/usd a night and suitable for low budget travelers with little demand for comfort and cleanliness. Also good if you like to go out at night because wifi connection worked very bad. The veranda is to small to sit and the garden is not very well maintained so it is not nice to sit there. We booked 7 nights but spent just one night, sat almost in the dark so not too many insects come in and spent our data volume to watch a movie. Wifi was very weak. Cleveland was very accommodating about the cancellation. It was his Co-host that made me particularly angry. She had an excuse for everything I complained about and said that we had not read the description well enough. Also we were not refunded the full price . 160 euros were missing. I regret booking this cottage. who wants to deal with problems on vacation?
Situated within easy access of all the main attractions of Port Antonio. Right in the heart of Fairy Hill you have a short walk to bars, cafe and shops. This area is unspoilt and so different to most places on the West Coast. It is not overrun with tourists so you see the real Jamaica. People are however very welcoming and pleased to see you. There are local Reggae music events every week and the famous Jerk chicken readily available plus high quality restaurants also close by.
You are a half hour walk to the surf beach of Boston and also about 20 mins route taxi to Port Antonio. Easy access to Blue Lagoon and Frenchman’s cove.
This is a very safe neighborhood. The locals will look out for you and help you find your way around. The road is the main road but traffic is very light and it is mostly a single carriageway. We are right in the heart of country Jamaica with green forested hills all around. The stars at night are amazing. This is the real country Jamaica and yet close to resorts such as Trident Castle, San San, Goblin Hill, GeeJam and Great Huts.
The best thing is you can walk to the beautiful, natural Winifred ecobeach. It takes about 10 mins through the rainforest.
If you have a car there is ample parking space on the property. Otherwise red plate, route taxis pass in the main road and it’s a J$150 fare to Port Antonio. Knutsford buses run from all airports and major centers. https://www.knutsfordexpress.com/ you can book on line. We are also available for airport transport ask for prices.
The beach/shops and bars are all 10-15 mins walk. The road is safe to walk even at night.
