Traveling to another country and having an unresponsive and not proactive host can really set you back. We lucked out with another host. There is lodging with two day minimum at top of the private drive from where Juan’s place is who welcomed us. I’d highly recommend staying there for convenience, good food, and interesting conversation. The sauna and overlook are wonderful as well. Unsure of the circumstances and trying to be considerate being in Central America and all but still enough to put a kink in a trip that’s for sure.

Staying with Juan was probably one of my favorite experiences in Costa Rica that will continue to live on. He ALWAYS offered me coffee and breakfast, gave me tips, fed the birds while I'm there so I could say hello to them. There was a miscommunication between me and my friends so I needed a place for an extra day. He was so welcoming and understanding. And of course, he offered me breakfast again. He went above and beyond to make sure I felt safe and checked in with me before and after my stay (because I was driving solo at night.) The room itself, when it rains a lot, it gets pretty loud so I'd bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper. Apart from that, his hospitality made me love this country even more. (His friend even baked me a fresh bread for my journey..!) One day, I wish to host him wherever I am so I can return the warmth he provided me! Pura vida!

Juan und seine Mutter sind freundliche Gastgeber. Die Aussicht ist einzigartig, mit dem Blick auf den See sowie die Berge / Vulkan sowie die Tierwelt (insbesondere Vögel). Es war der schönste Sonnenuntergang (ca 5 / 5:30 p.m. - März 2020). Im Dunklen sind wir nicht mehr mit dem Auto gefahren. Die Straßen sind halt schon sehr beschädigt. Unbedingt vorher essen gehen und / oder einkaufen (Getränke / Essen). Auch die Nutzung der Küche wurde uns angeboten. Das Frühstück war klein, aber sehr lecker. Wir hatten eine schöne Zeit. Am Haus gibt es 5 Hunde. Wir lieben Hunde. Das Zimmer befand sich in der 1. Etage (ohne Hunde). Das Zimmer ist einfach, aber gut und der Ausblick, wie gesagt, unbezahlbar.

Juan and Teresita are wonderful hosts! The place is beautiful up on the hill with views of the lake and waking up to the sounds of colorful birds all around you is such a treat!!

The house was a lovely retreat stop in the middle of our Costa Rica trip. Juan was a thoughtful host with quick communication and his mother was kind and thoughtful, bringing us tea and making us a full breakfast in the morning. The view is outstanding! Highly recommended
