自我介绍

We made our home here in the Charente in 2014 after falling in love with the beautiful rolling countryside which is famous for it's vineyards, fields of sunflowers and corn. We love the changing seasons and warmer climate. We live in a small hamlet just outside the pretty village of Rioux Martin surrounded by farmland. We are now used to the background noise of country life. Church bells, sheep, donkeys, chickens, owls and the dawn chorus of bird song. The night skies are amazing and star gazing is a must. We have beautiful walks from our door step. A favourite walk is around our local lake, Etang des Belettes. Aubeterre-Sur-Dronne, Cognac, Saint-Emillion, Brantome, Riberac, nature reserve Lac Bleu de Guizengeard, the tallest sand dune is Europe Dune du Pilatand and Angouleme are just a few places in the region to visit. Our local airports are Bordeaux and Bergerac, our nearest train station is in Chalais our local market town just 6 kilometres away and Angouleme is on the TGV line. Our move to France was to renovate our derelict farmhouse which was completed in 2019 and to live a more sustainable lifestyle. We are making good progress. We grow some of our own food and in 2023 expanded our vegetable garden and are trying out a no dig system. We keep chickens and ducks and invite our guests to help themselves to fresh eggs (when they are producing them) and whatever fruit and vegetables are available. We harvest rain water to use on the garden, compost all food waste and use eco products where possible.
