Hard review to write. On the one hand, we knew mostly what we were getting when we booked this place, even though there were not very many photos. And we knew it was ridiculously priced. We were influenced by friends who really enjoyed a long weekend in Hood River and were already going to be in Bend for a while. Unfortunately, we waited too long and inventory in the area was low. So... let's go with the good stuff first. We absolutely loved the Mt. Hood view off the deck, and being within short drives of orchards, lavender farms, waterfalls in the gorge. Getting to downtown was easy by car or by bike, but it was nice to not actually be in town. Location thus was perfect. The bed was really comfortable - very important for a month-long stay. The kitchen is fairly well stocked with most everything we needed to prepare meals and avoid dining out so much. That's about as far as it goes. We were quite dismayed to discover that the overall space was not in very good shape. Nothing major, but lots of little signs of neglect. The windows are dirty, the screen on the door is torn, letting in flies and bugs if you want to enjoy the outside air. There are broken boards on the deck. Hood light on the stove is out. Appliances are old. The furniture, which we knew was sparse from the photos, is not very comfortable. (except for the bed - thankfully!). It seems like this was furnished from someone's estate or garage sale. The wifi, which I was concerned about and asked about up front, was OK at first but got worse on the second half of our stay, even with cloud backup programs and other resource hogs shut down. We made due with decent speeds from our wifi hotspots, but it did make our remote work a bit more challenging. The toilet in the bunkroom broke a chain. The overhead lighting is fluorescent and harsh. Here's the thing: NONE of these nitpicky things would have mattered to us in the slightest, IF the price were about half of what it was. But we paid a luxury price of $5000 for a month long stay, and we would have expected things to be in tip-top shape all around. Another thing we weren't thrilled about: the hottub was more of a pain in the buns than an asset. Not only was it not very comfortable and only has one weak jet, we paid a premium price to stay here but were expected to turn the heat down to 80 degrees (or Bryan would do it remotely), and then wait for it to heat up 20+ degrees. I'm not about wasting energy but c'mon... $5000! Don't nickle and dime people over electricity. And then there were the gunshots. Someone, somewhere down in the valley below fires off a rifle or shotgun on a regular basis. 1 to 3 shots, multiple times a day or even per hour, starting in the early afternoon and going until the wee hours of the night, as late as 2-3am. We even got to where we identified specific times - 3 shots at precisely 10:40pm for example. Every night. Without fail. If it were a nearby shooting range open specific daytime hours I wouldn't mind a bit. That's pretty normal for rural living. But this grated on our nerves the longer we stayed. Did we say anything to Bryan about these things during our stay? Some of the maintenance items yes, that could be dealt with while we were there. But most of these issues aren't just "fixable" without putting some effort into the upkeep or doing some serous remodeling and refurnishing. Once you arrive at a destination, it's pretty much a done deal unless there's something absolutely unlivable. This wasn't the case, just a long list of small annoyances and dissatisfaction. We are not fussy people, despite what this review may sound like. I hate even writing these words. We travel all over the country and have stayed in dozens of airbnbs - we're 5 star guests with not a single negative review out of 50+ Many have been of equal or lesser quality than this stay and we enjoyed them without a complaint. But the nightly rates at those were a fraction of this stay. What we can't figure out is the 4.9 rating and so many gushing reviews that influenced our decision. Something must have changed since October 2021, the last time there was a review. I also noticed nobody else has booked the place for the remainder of 2022. So would we recommend staying here? Sure! IF you don't mind spending a LOT of money for very few amenities. We figure we paid $2000 for a month long stay and a $3000 upcharge for the view. Lesson learned.

Perfectly serine! We were looking for a quiet weekend to relax and enjoy all the beauty Hood river has to offer this was the perfect location. Our host Bryan was attentive yet not intrusive and was there to accommodate any need. I will definitely return, maybe next time to soak up the sun in summer or reflect on snow capped trees in winter. Honestly I couldn't imagine a time where it would not be the perfect quiet and beautiful home to enjoy a getaway. Thank you again Bryan
