The Steadings, set within the expansive, private and historic Newhall estate provided a comfortable new year break in uniquely beautiful surroundings. The cottage is simply furnished but very comfortable for 4 people - comfy sofas and a sizeable log burner make for cosy winter evenings in, where idyllic disturbances include the sound of the nearby waterfall or the hooting of the local owls. Bedrooms were very comfortably and two bathrooms with plenty of hot water on tap was perfect for the family - being dog friendly was a bonus. The cottage is really made however by its location, and the fact that guests can walk the many paths in the estate’s glen and enjoy the natural beauty and wildlife. We spotted several deer during our stay. The Pentland Hills and nearly Rosslyn Chapel ensured plenty of things to do and having Edinburgh just 30 minutes drive away made for the perfect stay.
Newhall provides a wonderfully quiet and relaxing environment in stunning surroundings. Gwen was a very helpful and attentive host. We had an amazing time and will definitely be back.
My parents had a lovely stay and really enjoyed the whole experience. Everyone we encountered was helpful and friendly, what a fantastic place! The private gardens were spectacular and the surroundings were very peaceful. We will definitely try and stay again!
自我介绍
Our warm, welcoming cottages were originally part of Newhall Estate’s traditional farm Steading that was built in the 18th century. Since its construction it’s been carefully updated and modernised, without losing any of its traditional charm. The cottages are fully equipped with every modern convenience. Newhall cottages are offered as accommodation to wedding parties on Newhall Estate but inbetween these bookings we offer it as a holiday let. Newhall House has been home to generations of families since the 13th century. The main building on the Estate dates back to 1703, when it was constructed by David Forbes. The home has seen its share of additions and alterations since its extension in 1792, but it still maintains its elegant character. See if you can spot tributes to Allan Ramsay’s poem The Gentle Shepherd throughout the home. The walled garden is another great place to look, and it’s perfect for photos too. We are situated about 12 miles south of Edinburgh (approx. 25 minute drive) which offers a good balance of being in the country but with access to the centre of Edinburgh.
