By far and away our favorite stay in Sri Lanka… Mr. Chamara offered gratuitous rainforest and estate hikes and fed us VERY well. A certainly must do and I already want to go back!

I found my inner peace at the Forest Retreat. It is literally located in the jungle. The road to the retreat is tough and a truck was even needed to send me close. I stayed for 3 nights at a top chalet which is right beside a mountain stream, and I didn’t get out of my chalet during my entire stay. I read, listened to indie rock, danced, ate and slept, but most of the time, did nothing, but my heart was full. Thanks a lot to Mr. Chamara and his team for taking care of my stay, fed me delicious local food, and arranged my trip. Mr. Chamara even helped me arrange a really nice safari tour to the Udawalawe National Park after my stay. A few things to notice: a. There is no Wi-Fi and the mobile signal is weak, therefore you couldn’t do much on your phone; b. The sound from the stream could become super loud during the nights for someone who is sensitive to sounds before sleep; c. It was cold in late nights and early mornings, better to have more than one blankets prepared.

Just took my breath away to sum it up. This retreat is what we needed and it was our best stay in Sri Lanka so far. Please be mindful its really really far from the town and you need to go on a maxi jeep provided by the property to reach up the mountain and though it was so bumby and adventurous once you reach up there its just worth it. You have your cabin in between tea estate to one side, a forest and a waterfall to the front. You are 24/7 listening to the beautiful water. the staff led by Chamara is another highlight. So kind, giving and they do everything possible to make your stay comfortable and beautiful. Roshini one of the girls who was the main staff was so amazing at her work. The food is another level. So generous, yummy and authentic Srilankan food! We loved it. There was no Internet or TV or even intercom but it never bothered us at all as the place is just too good.
