Beautiful place to stay! It was well within walking distance of the town centre yet still felt quiet and tucked away! Clean, tidy, nice furnishings, well equipped kitchen, lots of space to spread out and a lovely over bath shower. Couldn’t have asked for anything more and can’t wait to stay again! We got a Volvo and a fiesta parked fine!

Cottage was easy to find but dirty on arrival. No floors had been cleaned - kitchen floor was sticky underfoot and still had food on seat cushions and floor, and thick dust along carpet at edge of skirting boards & some furniture. Shower had soap and hair on the tiles. Front bedroom carpet was covered with dog hair as was the settees and snuggle rugs. Some bed linen was stained - not sure how the person putting it on wouldn’t have noticed. Same on the bathroom shower mat. Phoned agent. They sent their paid staff housekeeper out. She arrived with another lady and they spent about 75 mins cleaning. The agent told me I couldn’t stay in the house whilst they cleaned as they didn’t know whether I had covid and they had to keep their staff safe. I asked if they self tested. Apparently not. It looked better at the end - kitchen floor was 3 shades lighter! I wouldn’t stay with Wheelrights again. What’s the point in having Jerry’s friendly face on the ad if he doesn’t manage his own property?

Lovely little cottage. We really enjoyed our stay here. Parking was a bit of a nightmare, but we managed! House was warm and clean. There were a few small things which stopped us from giving a 5 star review. -We were unable to use the microwave accurately as the digital display appeared to be broken/malfunctioning. -Slightly lacking provisions (no hand towel in downstairs bathroom, no laundry tablets, very few dishwasher tablets, only 2 spare binbags and one very small bin.) This meant that despite only staying for a week, we had to buy bin bags, dishwasher tablets, laundry tablets, etc. Make sure you bring your own! -Parking! A little nail biting. The handbrake really struggled to hold our car on the drive, which meant trying to find other parking.

Couple of caveats up top - whilst it says something like cot and highchair available on request, it later transpired there was a fee of £30 if you wanted those. This felt pretty punitive, and we were disappointed with this approach. Secondly, the parking and access isn't without issue. It can't take 2 medium sized SUVs without some difficulty for instance (think Volvo XC60+audi q3), and is on a narrow crescent where people occasionally block access both in and out. Knowing those things however - FANTASTIC property. Super clean, great proximity to Ambleside, snatches of views from windows. Not great I suppose if a big boot room would be beneficial, and tbh it was quite tricky with a little one - but for older groups this is a lovely spot. Would recommend overall. Parking in Ambleside is always tricky, and to give a sense of it- that issue wouldn't stop me booking here again.

High Barn is a little gem of a house, located a stones throw from the hustle of Ambleside yet quiet and peaceful with beautiful views! We had a very comfortable stay, the kitchen was well equipped, bathrooms were modern and clean, private parking was a massive bonus (although the road is narrow and our car is quite big so made navigation in and out a little tricky at times depending on how the neighbours had parked!). The house had everything we needed for a comfortable stay, very comfy beds with warm high quality bedding, and plenty of lovely fluffy towels. Ambleside itself is beautiful with loads to do right on the doorstep. We left the car at home on quite a few occasions and walked for miles exploring! Great restaurants, lovely shops, everyone was friendly and we really did have the best holiday. We will be back!
