Our visit to Mundo Maya was truly special. Irma & Edelmira, along with Oswaldo, graciously spent the day walking us through the garden and teaching us about the plants, their names in Spanish and Mayan, & their curative properties. They spoke slowly & taught patiently, as we were brand new to herbalism & still learning Spanish, & were so generous with their knowledge & energy. It was a privilege to learn about their culture & traditions. We finished with a bath of sacred plants in sunshine-infused water — good for body & spirit! Our visit to a local curandero was deeply enlightening & affirming. The accommodations were simple and comfortable, and the food was delicious. We also loved visiting town & seeing a slice of life in this wonderful community. This is NOT your typical tourist experience — it’s much more meaningful. We left Mundo Maya with a renewed gratitude for Guatemala, Mayan wisdom keepers, & the plants that are such amazing allies for our health & wellbeing.

This was the best experience EVER!!! I feel like I have family in San Jose!!!! The plant medicine classes are amazing. There are classes of Mayan Ceramics, and Spanish. Very clean. They are incredibly helpful with transportation and serve amazing meals. Love it!!!!!! Best experience ever and I will be returning!!!!

I had the privilege to learn much about Mayan culture from Oswaldo. Irma, a Mayan elder whose females have passed down knowledge of herbs for generations, taught me about traditional uses for Mayan herbs. First they took me to a community ceremonial place and performed a lovely Mayan ritual of thanks for our time together. I was included in a family birthday gathering at a family beach home. Oswaldo also took me to a park that is the site of local Mayan artifacts and buried archaeological classic and pre-classic Mayan temples and homes. Later he showed me how to make a ceramic Mayan bird whistle, all while gentle expanding my limited Spanish. I am so grateful to have spent this time at Maya Munro.

What an amazing experience. From weeks before my arrival I knew this was going to excel as I had been in contact with Alba. She put together a wonderful itinerary that went above and beyond what I expected. Every person on the property became instant family. They made sure I was 100% happy and taken care of at all times and I truly felt like a king. I cannot wait to go back and see them again.

This is an amazing experience. Alba’s family is so sharing and so interesting, so friendly and so helpful. My husband spent the morning with Don Modesto and Oswaldo learning about Mayan agriculture and agroforestry. I spent the morning with Doña Irma and Elisa studying local medicinal plants. It was balm for my soul. At the end Doña Irma prepared a traditional healing bath for me. I felt so humbled and honored to experience this wonderful time with these ladies. The cabin was so comfortable and the location so peaceful, and the food was extremely plentiful and hearty. We loved it. Oswaldo is passionate about his culture and took us for a tour of the village. Such a great experience to have an insider’s view of the Mayan life in modern Guatemala. Overall this was an amazing experience. I would go to Guatemala just for this! I really can’t recommend this highly enough! Incredible value too. From initial contact with Alba through to Oswaldo dropping us off at the bus station by Flores, it was excellent. Doña Irma is a treasure!
