I’ve never written a bad review, and I don’t want to start now. Keith, if you read this, I hope you are happy with the stress, upset and anxiety you caused after I booked your property. It’s much easier to be a nice person - maybe work on that!

Slightly awkward start to our trip as we arrived at The Hay Barn to be greeted by a couple who told us they were there for the weekend! Host pulled up at the house as we were talking to the couple, we didn’t get the warmest greeting and he said he would of thought we’d message him about our arrival, I had sent messages asking questions about arrival and check-in the day prior which were read and ignored. We also tried to call, no answer, so we just arrived at the check in time stated on the booking not knowing what else to do. We all stood on the drive of The Hay Barn unsure of what was happening, host then tried to gaslight us and asked if I remembered our conversation about The Hay Barn being booked up but other property available?? I explained I remember originally trying to book the host’s property that sleeps 12(The Collecting Yard) and being told this is booked for our weekend and being offered The Hay Barn which we then confirmed, booked and paid for? I didn’t get a response he just said again that it’s booked. Our booking was always for the The Hay Barn, we’d only ever seen pictures of the barn, at no point was it ever communicated to me it was not available, hence why we arrived and parked up at The Hay Barn on the first day of our trip. If it was communicated, we’d either have accepted the other property or cancelled and got our money back. We let it go at the time as we didn’t have anywhere else to stay and we could hardly evict the current guests. We apprehensively followed host in our cars to a house back down the lane, I had never seen any photographs of this house, it was a new build house. We had an encounter with the neighbour who said ‘you’re not a hen party are you?’, we weren’t but this put us on edge, we were then asked by the host if we’ll be having any wild parties?? Perhaps as we were an all female group. We entered the house with the host, he made sure we knew they don’t normally let it out to people and it is a brand new house which made us feel a bit uncomfortable as if we shouldn’t be there or it was a problem that we were, even though it wasn’t our fault we’d been put there! House was nice enough, clean, enough beds for us all, en-suites, towels and toiletries provided, decent amount of kitchen equipment, dishwasher and there was a hot tub in the garden, it just obviously wasn’t what we were expecting and wasn’t quite the same feel as The Hay Barn, we booked it for a reason. The house was on a quiet lane with neighbours in a small village, only a 5 minute walk to the Sun Inn pub where we had a nice lunch. Two members of the group had their kids coming for one night, a new born and two under 2, they asked if there is definitely a travel cot and a high chair at the house(this is stated on the description of the The Hay Barn), I had asked this prior also but no reply. Host seemed surprised and displeased at the question and asked ‘why are there children coming then?’ we said that the house description states family/children friendly and that children’s equipment e.g high chair available so didn’t think we’d need to give more info on this, I mentioned I did message about the kids and equipment, he said that I did but it wasn’t clear and we need to be organised. He then questioned the childrens ages, we weren’t sure why he’d need to know this. We felt we had justify why we were bringing our children. We found 1 travel cot in a wardrobe so this was contradicting anyway. Couldn’t locate high chair in house so messaged host when children arrived asking for one, host responded saying he could get one but then hours went by and children were going to bed so I just said to leave it. We just thought host would have been a bit more accommodating considering he’d messed up the booking and we’d been relaxed about it, we could have have caused a big fuss. Description states house is dog friendly(another reason why we booked The Hay Barn), I asked about bringing 1 small dog prior to arrival and if there would be a charge, this is the one question that was actually answered, he just said no. What would have happened if we’d have just brought the dog since it’s ‘dog friendly’??Maybe all these things would have been ok in the house we’d actually booked but not ok in this new house… but that was not our problem. The only issues we had with the house were that we did not have our own access to the heating, host had to be contacted if it needed to be changed, after the first morning, there was no hot water and there was no cleaning products to be able to thoroughly clean at the end of our stay, we made do and left it as we found it but even an anti-bac spray would have been good. Although our group had a great time overall, it was a shame we had this experience as we’re now put off booking through this host in future.

A very spacious and well presented barn conversion. Very clean and tidy! A great place with perfect location. Thank you Keith!
