This cottage is one of two renovated farmworkers' cottages located on a farm in a secluded corner of the Dordogne. Private lake with canoes, rowing boat and pedalo are at your disposal, as well as a 250 acre patchwork of woodland and grassland to explore. Spend days lounging in the sun with a good book by the lake, or visit the nearby local markets and historic villages. Ideal for families, couples and groups of friends looking for a rural retreat and a break from their fast-paced lives. This cottage is set back from a small country lane by a small grassy area and gravel drive. Pasture land surrounds the house on three sides, with the lake making up the fourth side. It's just down the road from Chez Robert, another holiday cottage, and it's a ten-minute walk through the forest to the main farmhouse. At the front of the house is a big open-plan kitchen living-room area with a large dinner table, butcher's block, Rayburn Range cooker, fridge-freezer, microwave, pots and pans, dishwasher, and common kitchen utensils. There are also two bathrooms and three bedrooms, one double and two good sized twins. A corridor leads straight through the house, with the garden and sheltered outdoor eating area out the back. Guests from all the houses have access to the 5-acre lake with sandy beach and small island. To make the most out of the lake, we offer the use of a rowing boat for fishing or just pottering, a couple of 2-man canoes, a kayak, and a pedalo. Apart from the main lake, two other peaceful lakes can be found on the premises and are stocked with fish, including carp, tench, roach and perch. The surrounding woodlands can be explored thanks to maintained footpaths.

A pretty, traditional and authentic gite with all you need for your stay. A beautiful setting by the lake and extras like pétanque, boats to use, island to explore, outdoor furniture, pizza oven and bbq at your disposal. Roger was a lovely host keen to ensure we had everything for our stay

Apart from the other guests on the farm, the nearest neighbours are across fields and woodland making this a very peaceful and picturesque spot. The nearest bakeries, butcher's, farm-shop, restaurant and supermarkets are located in La Roche-Chalais, a small town a 3-minute-drive or 10-minute bike ride away. The nearest river where you can hire canoes is just beyond the village of Parcoul, 7 km away.
The area is rural, but the countryside is quite diverse around us. Go 30 km west and you are in vineyards internationally famous for their Bordeaux and St Emilion wines. Wine tasting in the nearby chateaux makes a good day out. Go south, and similarly you reach the many vineyards, chateaux, and rivers of the area around Bergerac. To the east, and you'll reach the picturesque rolling hills, old market towns, and rivers that the Dordogne region is famous. The historic village of Aubeterre, listed as one of the most beautiful villages of France is a 20 minute drive in that direction, whereas the prehistoric caves, les Grottes de Villars, are just over an hour's drive away.
Our area is famous for its cuisine with a focus on fresh, local produce that can be bought (or tasted) at a range of markets: there is a different market for every day of the week!
The nearest airports are Bordeaux and Bergerac airports. From the farm, it takes just over an hour to drive to Bordeaux airport and just under an hour to drive to Bergerac airport.
We suggest guests bring a car as the area is secluded and public transport is very limited.
If, however, this is not an option, a train runs from St Aigulin (10-minute-drive from the farm) 3 times a day to and from Bordeaux and Angouleme and takes about 45 minutes. If you can reach St Aigulin, we could arrange to pick you up from the station and drop you off there at the end of your stay. Coutras station Is also a good option with hourly trains running from Bordeaux and is a 25 minute drive away.
