We had a good stay at Navotua. We think it was slightly too pricey, and we want Navotua to remain competitive. Everything was very clean when we arrived, and the information Dakua sent ahead of time was very useful. DEFINITELY READ THIS INFORMATION THOROUGHLY. It was clear some of the other foreign visitors did not and it was awkward. There were no problems with the pickup. The villagers were very friendly and we enjoyed getting to know everyone better - having the meals in different houses was definitely a great way to encourage this. I would advise bringing snacks as in between meal times there is nothing. Of the 5 days we stayed there, afternoon tea was forgotten twice because the villagers genuinely were busy. So just bring some snacks and you’ll have a good backup. We feel like we experienced genuine village life. There was no confusion with the pricing for trips - there is a whole group price but it is then divided by bure and sometimes that equals to more than the group cost simply because it’s easier maths. It’s only a few dollars extra so it doesn’t matter. I didn’t feel the need to negotiate as I thought the price was fair.

The Red Bure is comfortable, screened and has an ensuite. It is right on the beach and has great views of the surroundings and the village. The description of what to expect was well written. The hospitality was outstanding, the food was fresh daily and plenty of it with plenty of fish and fresh home grown vegetables and fruit. Each meal was prepared by a different woman from the village and we drank the rainwater without a problem. Kana vinaka na kakana! The excursions to Sawa- I- Lau cave was amazing and a must. We also went fishing and snorkeling and a picnic with fresh caught smoked fish. It was all dependant on the tide and we enjoyed just sitting around talking to the villages. Our week long stay could not have been any better- marvelous hosts, welcoming villagers and amazing children. Thanks Sai, La, Eta and the whole village. We will be back

Recomendamos ampliamente este alojamiento. Es exactamente igual a lo explicado y mostrado en las fotos. La cabaña (bure) estaba a unos metros de la playa, y en un cuarto separado estaban el baño y la ducha, los que solo eran usados por nosotros. La comida era muy buena, constaba de los ingredientes usuales en la village (frecuentemente había pescado, breadfruit, entre otras cosas); era servida en cantidades más que suficientes. En las inmediaciones de la playa era posible hacer kayak y snorkel, con hermosos vistas submarinas: corales, peces de colores, estrellas marinas y más! Recomendamos la visita a las cuevas y la isla honey-moon (hacer snorkel!), y también la noche de entretenimiento, donde los pobladores ofrecen una muestra de su música y sus danzas tradicionales. Por la noche hay muchos mosquitos, sugerimos usar repelente y algún insecticida (tipo "raidolitos"). También es bueno guardar bien la comida, que hay ratones (a nosotros nos visitaron solo la última noche). Es buena idea llevar alguna linterna. Creemos que es muy importante para la comunidad que todos los visitantes se lleven consigo toda la basura que generen.

This a wonderful chance to experience firsthand traditional Fijian culture where they still live using traditional methods. Growing and harvesting their own food supply. Spear fishing, catching mud and land crabs and diving for lobsters and bigger fish. It takes around 4hrs altogether which includes a few drop offs along the way from Nadi if you're travelling by Seabus Ferry as we did ($100pp each way) Once you almost reach Nacula Island, you get picked up by a smaller boat and taken to Navotua Island where we stayed for almost 3 weeks for our honeymoon. A small piece of paradise. We were there during school holidays so the kids got to play around all day making their own fun. Great place to bring your own children and allow them to just be children. (in hindsight I wish we'd brought the kids as I know they would have loved it) The village comes together every day (except Sunday's which is the day of rest for the village) and plays volleyball. We and all other guests were welcomed to play no matter how good or bad you played. The village make's a living from the island homestay, selling coconuts and crabs and by making this amazing and pure virgin coconut oil and soap which you can buy. I highly recommend getting some and most families can sell it to you. We just chose a family that made the most effort with us. The oil is awesome for cooking, whitening your teeth after brushing, amazing for put on your skin after a shower or on sunburn and great for healing bites and wounds. Its primitive in many ways but wonderfully liberating and carefree. The village is so very friendly and nothing is too much trouble if you need something, you just have to ask and someone will help you. Our simple green coloured Bure was right opposite the beach/ocean and I had to pinch myself every morning looking at the spectacular view. We had a small table and chairs outside our Bure and a hammock big enough for myself and 6ft husband to fit in. It really was a chance to really switch off and have nothing dictated by time. Fijian people run on their own time so come with no expectation of things running like this as you will feel very frustrated defeating the purpose of relaxing. Every day you got to meet and talk with a different family and have either breakfast, lunch or dinner. It feels weird at first but the family that prepares the meals sits with you but does not eat with you. It is customary for them to look after their guests first and get you anything you need, then they go and eat with their families (I think they feel shy eating around westerners as we eat with knives and forks and they don't) If you would like to go on a day trip somewhere $20 is about the standard cost and is not a lot...
