We had a lovely stay in the cottage. Very cosy, warm and comfortable and practical too with a well equipped kitchen. Good location with easy access to lots of things to do.

The place is generally nice in a good location, but the place wasn't prepared/ maintained for us when we arrived just before New Year. There was no electricity, the boiler was depressurised so it was cold and dark and slightly damp. We managed to sort the boiler out ourselves and switch on the fusebox after asking. We got the stove in the lounge working but the cement on the door is broken so it leaked a fair bit of smoke. The WiFi also didn't work according to initial instructions but the owner helped get it working. There was a dead bird in the bathroom that had obviously been trying to get out and left feathers and droppings around the bath. There were a few other minor maintenance issues. The whole place was very dusty and dirty, with few cleaning materials. The place has a lot of character and is generally nice and well equipped, but it really needs a bit of maintenance and better oversight of the cleaning etc. Then this would be a top place to stay.

Great place with good access to the Solway Firth beaches and Northern/Western Lakes. Very Peaceful

Diane hosted us for two weeks upon our move to England with two cats. She was so accommodating and helped facilitate package deliveries ahead of us, which was greatly appreciated. The space was great: open plan living area was perfect for enjoying the stunning views! Upstairs bedroom was very comfortable. The single bathroom downstairs was slightly inconvenient to use, especially at night (going downstairs, through the vestibule, over the doormat, in bare feet in the dark.) Outdoors, the setting was idyllic and the grounds lovely to explore. However our biggest issue was the ongoing infestation of pill bugs. Also lots of dead ones under the furniture—indicating that the place had not been thoroughly vacuumed, despite host’s assurances that it had been “thoroughly disinfected.” Spiders everywhere as well. Some insect presence is to be expected in old country houses but this went beyond. Add to this a (coincidental?) angry rash of mite bites, and we were not happy campers by the end.

Stayed for several nights so we could access the lakes and fells, the location was great as it was only a 10/15 minute drive to the bottom of Skiddaw and onto Bassenthwaite Lake. The surrounding area of the cottage was very quiet and views across fields. Drove 2 minutes into Aspatria to the Co-op amd also chip shop, all had what was expected. The coast is only a 15/20 minute drive away for the fresh sea air, all in alll a great location. The accomodation was exactly as in the photos, slept the four of us well and the dog. Only snags was a very creaky bed downstairs, a few cobwebs here and there and needing a good clean under the sofas, as we moved them to see the tv. Parking was fine, just outside the door and the local area for a dog walk.
