Perfect for family and friends to come together to enjoy this beautiful part of the Peak District. Dog Friendly, we charge an additional £30 for a dog for the duration of your stay and can accept up to 2 dogs. Red Lion Yard is a grade 2 listed cottage so has kept plenty of it's original features, adding to the natural charm of the property. The village has an active farming community, village school and parish church. You are able to enjoy the peace and quiet of this unspoilt village life but still be close enough to the market towns of Bakewell and Matlock which are only a short drive away. The cottage welcomes you through the front door into the kitchen diner, with stone paved floor and large feature fireplace catching your eye on arrival. The bespoke, modern kitchen fills the space beautifully finished in soft greys and whites and fitted to a high standard. The kitchen has all the modern appliances an electric hob with 5 cooking zones, electric combi oven consisting of a microwave and slow cooker, dishwasher and tall fridge with 0 degree fresh area but no freezer compartment. There is a washing machine in the outhouse which can be requested to use, prior to your stay. In the centre of the room is the dining table, seating 6 and perfect for everyone to come together to help prepare the meals or just sit and catch up on the days activities. Leading from the kitchen and up one step is the lounge, this room really gives you a country feel with a mixture of different styles of comfy seating and soft furnishings. The room has wooden floors and a central log burner to snuggle round in the cooler months. There is a TV in the corner of the room - should you even want to watch TV whilst you stay! Through this room are the stairs that lead to the first floor bedrooms and also a doorway to the ground floor bedroom. A handy ground floor bedroom with wooden floor, there is a small fixed double bed with chest of drawers storage, a feature fireplace dominating the room and a sliding wooden door that neatly hides away a toilet and hand basin. On the first floor the property leads to the left to the bathroom and the right to the bedrooms. The bathroom is shared with the 2 first floor bedrooms and has been beautifully kitted out in a cool and crisp white suite with a luxury feel. Original beams are still proudly on show and the bathroom consists of a double ended luxurious bath, wash basin, toilet, walk in shower with fixed overhead shower head and separate hand held shower attachment, there is also a large heated towel rail and storage cupboard. From the bathroom there is a small step down to the carpeted landing that takes you to the further 2 bedrooms. Bedroom 2 leads off first with wooden floorboards (which can be creaky) and a fixed standard double. Original beams are still on show and 2 bedside tables are neatly placed either side of the bed. There is a set of drawers for storage and a cast iron feature fireplace adding to the charm of the room. At the end of the landing is the master bedroom. Bedroom 1 is carpeted and the super king double bed is grandly sat in the centre of the room, with duel aspect windows allowing in plenty of natural light. There is a chest of drawers for storage, plus a dressing table. In the corner of the room is an open hanging space with rail and hangers. The room will also fit in a travel cot. Again this room has kept the original beams proudly on show. The front door from the kitchen then leads you to the outdoor space for the cottage, there is no lawn area unfortunately but further into the village there is a recreation field should you have kids or dogs that want to let off some steam. The outdoor seating area is gravelled with seating and a small table and is purely only used by anyone staying in the cottage however the access is shared with the house behind. There is a Webber compact charcoal BBQ available. To the rear of the cottage is a lockable stone outhouse, the washing machine is in here and there is also storage for up to 6 bikes.
This is a very peaceful location, hardly saw any other people although it appears to be a residential area. The house is lovely, modern while maintaining historical features like the stone floor in the kitchen and lower door frames. Noise does travel in the property, so if there are a lot of you please be mindful that if you're in bedroom 2 you'll hear everything in the living room and if you're in bedroom 3 you'll hear people going in and out of the bathroom. You do need a car to get around, the nearest major supermarket is approx 20 mins drive in Matlock. Same regarding eating options, again Matlock or Bakewell are your options. If you're hoping for takeaway, found the options limited (pizza or fish and chips) otherwise if you're cooking the kitchen has all the appliances you need, though it would have been good if there were a microwave. It's very close to a number of walking trails which offer easy to hard walks. Great for exploring the area.
An immaculate cottage in an incredible location. We had a great stay and whenever we needed any advice Anna was quick to respond. It was exactly what we wanted for the weekend and would definitely return if back in the area.
The best Airbnb we have stayed at! Spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated throughout. It had everything we needed for our family of 5. The little extra touches, like the welcome basket and the lovely toiletries, were very much appreciated. A perfect base for exploring the Peak District with our family. We loved it!
Elton is a small, unspoilt, village close to the towns of Bakewell and Matlock. Located on a hillside that overlooks Robin Hood's Stride which is a collection of gritstone rocks and open countryside offering differing walks for families with children or for the more hearty walkers. A fascinating spot to explore, with the Hermit’s Cave at Cratcliffe Rocks, where a carved crucifix and a indent for a candle remains under a rock under hang, this was at one time home to a hermit. Hermits were looked on as holy men, appointed to lonely places by a bishop, they rendered hospitality and assistance to travellers. The nearby villages of Stanton, Birchover and Winster are heaped in history and are easily accessible with local walks. Rowtor Rocks near Birchover is also a great place to visit too, with a mysterious caves complex. This area is certainly steeped in history and needs to be explored.
The market town of Bakewell is only a 15 minute drive away, offering plenty of independent shops to browse and take home a memento of your time in the Peak District. There are plenty of cafes and pubs, a public swimming bath and a great park for the children to let off some steam.
Free on street parking to the property and can park across the entrance of the property
Further on street parking elsewhere on the road
Nearest train station is Matlock approx 15 minute drive
Nearest main bus stops are in Bakewell or Matlock and there are local stops in the village
Nearest airports are Manchester approx 1 hr 15 minutes minutes drive away or East Midlands 1 hr 5 mins
