Welcome to Belle Rive in historic French River. This elegant and gorgeously remodeled open concept church is steps from Northern Ontario's most spectacular paddling, fishing, hiking and snowmobiling. Inside you’ll find a vaulted ceiling, modern kitchen, designer washroom and home comforts. It’s the perfect private spot for a couple's getaway or quiet retreat for a small family or close friends. We are a five minute walk from the French River, just off Highway 69 and 45 mins. south of Sudbury. The 650 sq ft former church, open-concept, has three beds - a queen-sized bed, a double deluxe Murphy with built-in storage and overhead reading light, and a double-sized leather pull out sofa. All the beds fold away for maximum living space. The fully-equipped kitchen includes a dishwasher, wine fridge, countertop oven/air fryer, coffee maker, soda stream, four slice bagel/bread toaster and a four-top induction cookstove. A propane fireplace makes for a cozy stay, and radiant in-floor heat in the kitchen and bathroom makes for happy feet. The mature trees surrounding the church and the deluxe ceiling fan keep the building cool all summer. There's always coffee and all the fixings waiting for guests, along with a little welcome basket of goodies. Outdoors the property is grassy, treed, private and quiet with a two part large deck with bbq, table and chairs. The property adjoins a small piece of Crown land. This is a meticulously renovated, charming, one-of-a kind northern getaway. Ideally, we accommodate up to 4 guests, but reach out if you have more - exceptions may apply for children. Please note: if the reservation is made for a couple and no specifications are made for set up, we prepare the double bed with storage and built-in reading light for you (as opposed to the queen).

If you are planning an adventure up north, this is such a fantastic gem. I will try not to use the word “perfect” too much in this review. Firstly, you’re sleeping in a church - but the inside is just spectacular. A lot of care has gone into making the space liveable - the warmth and coziness of this place will tempt you to spend the duration of your getaway inside on the comfiest couch watching the fire place, eating popcorn. But don’t! Because secondly, you’re a very short walk from French River PP and the supply post - perfect for paddlers, hikers, snowshoers, bikers, trail runners… I can go on. There‘s things to check out as soon as you pull up. There’s a small and interesting cemetery across the street - with dates ranging from the early 1900s to the aughts. This is the perfect place to stay in any season for the outdoor explorer, or the homebody looking for a quiet reprieve. I plan on returning (wish I was still there!) and am looking forward to recommending to all.
Our stay was great; the church was exactly as described with a stunning decor, peaceful surroundings and fully stacked kitchen. We truly enjoyed our time. Highly recommended for a couple who is looking for a unique escape!

We are just a couple of minutes from some of the best snowmobile trails in Northern Ontario, including the famous Snowmobile Bridge 90 ft. above the French River gorge located at French River Provincial Park. The famous Recollet Falls hiking trail is also located right there and it’s a 3k round trip hike.
Just two minutes from our house is BG’s Tacos, a take out spot run out of a commercial kitchen in a local home, founded by a Mexican Canadian woman. On weekends, you can buy amazing Mexican food to take home, or you can sit at picnic tables at their place. Our fave is the Alhambra, meat or vegan options! She has the freshest, best homemade salsas in the world. Order ahead!
We are about 10 minutes from the town of Alban which has great fish and chips, a general store with home made pizzas and pie, among other necessities. There is a splash pad for kids in Alban, a pharmacy, yoga, fish and chips, amazing ice cream and Dee Dee’s restaurant.
You can also walk to the French River Supply Post from our place from late May to October, and get yourself some ice cream, French River apparel or necessities. The famous French River Trading Post, a major tourist attraction with its delicious fudge and incomparable shopping is also around the corner!
Grundy Lake Provincial Park with its amazing cliff jumping, trails and waterfront is 10 minutes away.
The Riverdale Resort is a 15 minute drive away. They have a tavern/restaurant with pool and darts and live bands.
Noelville is 20 minutes away and it has a hardware store, full grocery store, laundromat, famous chip truck, breakfast spot and more!
Further afoot is the Lavigne Tavern with amazing pizza and a ton of live music.
We are kayakers - we bought this wonderful church to be close to the river, so just ask us for routes and ideas! Nearby Presqu’ile Cottages rents boats for fishing trips.
You will need a vehicle to get to the church. The water is a five minute walk.
