A very private cabin, well located in the Golden Circle (near road 35). This cozy grandma cabin with the name Rjupulundur, offer a unique blend of charm and amenities. The cabin, sits half way between Selfoss and Geysir. The cabin provides quiet surroundings, with singing birds, perfect for those seeking a tranquil retreat. Ideal for two or a small family, featuring a private geothermal heated hot tub. Well-equipped ensuring a comfortable stay while immersing guests in Iceland's natural beauty. An Icelandic grandma’s cabin, often called a “sumarbústaður” in Iceland, exudes a quaint, cozy charm that reflects the country’s rich heritage and connection to nature. The cabin is constructed from wood, and situated in serene, rural settings. Inside, the cabin is warm and inviting, with a rustic, homey feel. It’s common to find hand-knitted woolen blankets, traditional Icelandic patterns in the décor. The furniture is usually simple and functional, often handmade or passed down through generations. The kitchen is the heart of the cabin, equipped with the essentials for cooking and baking. It’s not uncommon to find homemade Icelandic delicacies, like kleinur (a type of doughnut) or pönnukökur (Icelandic pancakes), being prepared here. Outside, the cabin is surrounded by Iceland’s stunning natural beauty – from rugged mountains and nature. A large garden with native plants and herbs might be found, and the Northern Lights can often be seen dancing in the sky. The cabin is a retreat, a place for family gatherings, storytelling, and connecting with Iceland’s cultural roots and breathtaking landscapes.
Virkilega kósý bústaður, heimilislegt, heiti potturinn virkaði vel, gaman a0 geta haft hundinn okkar með
The house was an absolute dream. It is in the middle of nowhere and you will have an incredible sight of the Northern Lights if they are visible in the area. It is perfectly located in the middle of the golden circle with all sights easily reachable. The house was clean and very cozy. The only thing we would change is the very old and partly dirty shower, it should be replaced. But the entire rest of our experience in this beautiful home was a blast, especially the hot tub outside. You should definitely spend your time here if you are searching for an isolated place in a great location!
Cosy cabin, well situated to see the Northern lights and to drive the golden circle. Very responsive hosts. Tap water smells quite sulphurous as it is from a geothermal source, but is safe to drink. Overall a lovely stay.
The Golden Circle is a popular tourist route in Southwest Iceland, known for its stunning natural landscapes and historical significance. This 50-100 kilometer loop from the cabin into central Iceland and back showcases three primary attractions:
With only 12 min. drive you reach Iceland’s best tomato soup, famously served at Friðheimar.
Thingvellir National Park: This UNESCO World Heritage Site is significant for both its history and geology. It’s the site of the world’s first parliament, the Althing, established by the Vikings in 930 AD. The park also lies in a rift valley where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet.
Geysir Geothermal Area: Home to the famous Geysir, which rarely erupts now, and Strokkur, which erupts every few minutes, shooting water up to 30 meters in the air. The area is a stunning display of Earth’s geothermal activity.
Gullfoss Waterfall: One of Iceland’s most iconic waterfalls, Gullfoss is known for its immense power and beauty. The Hvítá River plunges into a deep gorge, creating a breathtaking spectacle.
Kerið Crater: This volcanic crater lake is known for its vivid blue water surrounded by steep slopes of red volcanic rock. Visitors can walk around the rim and down to the water’s edge.
Secret Lagoon: Located in the small village of Flúðir, it’s a natural hot spring, perfect for relaxing after a day of sightseeing.
Faxi Waterfall: Smaller than Gullfoss but still impressive, Faxi is part of the Tungufljot River and is a great spot for a quieter, less crowded experience.
Laugarvatn Fontana: This geothermal spa offers relaxing baths and steam rooms, with a unique twist: visitors can try geothermally baked bread made in the hot earth.
Efstidalur Farm: Known for its farm-to-table approach, offering fresh dairy products, including delicious ice cream. It’s a great spot to understand Icelandic farm life.
Skálholt Cathedral: An important historical site, it was one of two major cultural centers in medieval Iceland. The modern cathedral contains historical relics and artwork.
Hveragerði: A town known for its geothermal park and numerous hot springs, where you can boil an egg in a hot spring and try geothermally baked bread.
These attractions offer a mix of natural wonders, history, and cultural experiences, making the Golden Circle a must-visit destination in Iceland.
