An idyllic rural retreat on the coast, Hen-Dy-Frongaled is a fabulous pet friendly four bedroom farmhouse with sea views located between Harlech and Barmouth. Set within a large building split into two cottages, the property is located within the original part of the farmhouse, packed full of charm and original features. With four bedrooms, sleeping eight, this 17th century stone building is the perfect home from home for a few days to share with your family and friends. Entering into through the front door, a stone floored hallway provides access to two reception rooms and a kitchen diner. To the right, a lounge area is a wonderfully cosy space with a fabric sofa tucked into one end along with an armchair, side tables and TV in the corner of the room. Exposed wooden beams hint at the age of the building, and a beautiful ornate fireplace takes centre stage on the feature wall. The larger living space opposite is stunning, slate floor with underfloor heating, along with the wooden ceiling beams and stone wall to one end, featuring an impressive inglenook fireplace. Two sofas and an armchair are located around a coffee table facing towards the cosy log burner tucked into the fireplace. With lamp lighting and a crackling log fire, this is a fabulous room to spend an evening relaxing and socialising. The large kitchen diner to the rear of Hen-Dy-Frongaled is a charming room - a perfect social space that mixes the traditional features of the house with modern touches in the fixtures and fittings. Having been in the family for generations, this painstaking renovation has retained features such as the old bread oven which is still in place, as well as the old stamp used to the mark the butter produced on the farm. Small touches that make all the difference. The kitchen units and island counter are finished in neutral colours with wooden worktops. A large range cooker is perfect for whipping up a hearty breakfast or an evening meal, and gathering around the large farmhouse dining table. A door from the kitchen leads to a downstairs WC. Stairs from the hallway of this four bedroom farmhouse with sea views lead up to the property's four bedrooms, a family bathroom and an en-suite. The master bedroom is bright and airy with white walls and the exposed and painted floorboards. A fireplace sits in the corner of the room, and the kingsize bed is flanked by bedside cabinets with table lamps. A door leads into a modern en-suite, with WC, corner shower cubicle and sink unit with storage space under for toiletries. A large family bathroom features a bathtub, separate shower cubicle, WC and sink. The front of the property houses the other three bedrooms, which comprise of a double room, a twin and a small room with a set of bunks. All rooms are stylishly decorated with wooden framed beds, soft bedding and patterned throws, along with painted pine furniture. The rooms feature the original farmhouse doors which provide a rustic feel, and the exposed timber of the ceilings as well as some oak panelled walls really show off the history of the building.
The location of Hen-Dy-Frongaled merges the rural and coastal setting perfectly. With uninterrupted sea views, the farmhouse is surrounded by acres of fields separated by traditional stone walls. The garden space is sprawling and shared with the adjacent cottage, but with separate outdoor seating areas for both. A slate chipping patio area and drive leads to the property, with terracotta plant pots lined up along the front of the cottage. A lawn area opposite the front door features two picnic tables side by side, perfect for alfresco drinks or dining, looking out to sea. This leads to a large and secure lawn area surrounded by tall stone walls, the ideal place for the children of the group to play. At only two miles from the nearest beach and a mile from the nearest pub, there's plenty to do close to home when staying at this four bedroom farmhouse with sea views. Whether it's relaxing in the garden watching one of the stunning North Wales sunsets, or spending a day on the beach, there's no need to travel far to capture the beauty of the area, especially for lovers of the outdoors. The nearest sandy beach, Benar Beach, is stunning. Accessed via a boardwalk that crosses the spectacular sand dunes, there are views across to the Llŷn Peninsula from the beach, which is ideal for swimming, water sports and sunbathing on those warmer summer days.
The location between Harlech and Barmouth provides the opportunity to experience a real seaside holiday feel, or capture some of the historical elements of the area. Harlech is home to the stunning 13th century Harlech Castle, sitting on a rocky outcrop overlooking the coast and mountains of Eryri (Snowdonia). It's a wonderful town to explore, with narrow streets, cute cafes and boutique gift shops. Barmouth, further south, has a more traditional seaside resort feel, but with a wide sweeping bay and a mountain backdrop, which is equally impressive.
There are plenty of opportunities for walking nearby, especially suitable for families with smaller children. The Mawddach Trail runs along an old disused railway line between Barmouth and Dolgellau along the Mawddach Estuary. Further inland, Coed-y-Brenin Forest Park has numerous walking trails that are family friendly. This is also the ideal spot for lovers of cycling, with bike hire available and purpose built mountain biking trails. For more challenging hikes, the Rhinogydd mountains are nearby, where a number of walking routes meander through these hills with something to suit all skill and fitness levels.
