Welcome to Narberth, crown jewel of the leafy Mainline suburbs of Philadelphia - a 15-minute train ride. Relax with self check-in ✔ parking ✔ Netflix ✔ Prime ✔ 5G WiFi ✔ office desk ✔ AC ✔ King beds ✔ covered balcony with heater ✔ Stroll amid the wealthy scenic neighborhood of Philly's elite. Walkable to train with many colleges; 20-minute drive to huge King of Prussia mall & historic Valley Forge National Park. Our penthouse home is near the heart of town with the quiet appeal of the suburbs.
This home was in a quiet area, very clean and spacious had every amenity needed, and the host was very attentive throughout the stay would highly recommend
There was quick and friendly communication, check-in/check-out went smoothly, the room was clean and as described, along with useful/abundant amenities, and the location was great, within walking distance to the train station as well as a variety of stores and restaurants nearby. Overall, we were very satisfied with our stay. Thank you!!
Gut-renovated with over $500k during 2022-23, for those visiting Narberth, Philadelphia, or local college towns of Haverford, Bryn Mawr, and Villanova, we are less than 10 minutes (0.5) stunningly beautiful walk from Main Line (Paoli-Thorndale SEPTA) train station (only 6 miles / 15 minutes train from Philly) and are inside the quiet streets of Narberth a few blocks away from the noisier main roads of Montgomery Avenue and Lancaster Avenue. Next door to us is the original old toll house that was moved from Montgomery Avenue, where the nearest commercial center is located with a Rite Aid pharmacy at the corner of our street and an ACME supermarket two blocks down (0.2 miles / 4 min walk) with Wawa and Staples a block or two further. I HIGHLY recommend the local Suburban Square shopping district - a brief 4 minutes by car along Montgomery Avenue - for fine food, luxury shopping (luxury timepieces, clothes, etc.) and year-round refined ambience.
Looking for the closest playground or park? The local General Wayne park with playground, sports fields, caged tennis and basketball courts is only an 8 min walk (0.4 miles). Narberth itself offers restaurants, coffee shops, takeaways, bars, shops, curiosity stores, luxury stores, dry cleaners, cinema, and much more all in the center of town – all within a 5 to 10 minute walk through quiet pedestrian-friendly suburb streets. Teenagers may enjoy the skatepark at Narberth park and adults too may jump in to play catch basketball or tennis. Being from Dublin, Ireland, I have to recommend the Great American Pub as a good Irish/American restaurant / sports bar, only a few minutes walk from the house and The Cheese Company, Le Petit Mitron, and Village Treats for coffee/delicacies/ice-cream. For more refined dining and to really get the local, affluent Mainline feel, a stroll along Lancaster Avenue is a must. Small, old world shops abound. You can lose yourself in second hand luxury furniture stores all the way from our nearest neighbor Wynnewood to Paoli – walk, hop on the train or drive to visit.
Lancaster Avenue was once the road leading west out of Philadelphia taking adventurers on the beginning of their journey to the frontier. From Overbrook (two stops closer to Philly) and out was where the privileged ultra wealthy families lived, and still do to this day, with one nearby home in our adjacent village of Gladwynne listed for $25 million, while some of our neighbor are usually under a more modest $2.5 million… What is special about Narberth is that it is the only town to have its own borough within the local Lower Merion Township, almost like how the Vatican City is to Rome. A cocoon, if you will. Close to everything, yet retaining the family-friendly small-town charm. We are only 1.5 miles walk / 2 train stops from St Joseph’s University, a few more from U Penn / Drexel, 2.5 miles from Haverford College, 3.5 miles from Bryn Mawr College, and 5 miles from Villanova University. Several other local colleges can be found along the train line such as Rosemont, Cabrini, Eastern...to name but a few!
From Philadelphia airport, you can drive, take a taxi ($40) or Uber ($40) in about 25 minutes. You can also ask for a transfer to Narberth (Paoli-Thorndale line) after boarding the airport line train towards Philadelphia that comes every 30 minutes. Switch at 30th street station to Paoli-Thorndale line and Narberth is the 3rd stop. Train will cost about $12.75 and take an hour. Bus (108, transfer to 65 at 69th street station and 44 at City Av and 52nd St) will cost about $4.50 and take about 90 minutes.
Cars should be parked on the grass turf block patio by the side of the house as spots on the street mostly have maximum two-hour time limits. Penthouse guests cannot park on the asphalt blacktop driveway. Please attempt to leave room for other vehicles to access the asphalt blacktop driveway. The two-car garage at the back of the property is not accessible to guests. If you have more vehicles than can fit, never fret! There is metered parking on streets nearby and parking is usually free on some spots along the far side of Montgomery Avenue, about one or two blocks from the property – please read the signs. ParkMobile app also allows paying for short term parking between Haverford Ave and Windsor Ave about five minutes walk from the house. Narberth train station parking lot (0.5 miles, under 10 minutes walk) is $1/day (currently FREE until further notice as of June 2023). The area is extremely safe as one of finest, leafiest suburb the main line has to offer, with several captains of industry and leading minds living nearby.
Narberth Mainline train station is half a mile (under 10 minutes beautiful, safe, quiet walk) from the house. You will find multiple parks in almost every direction you walk, public areas for playing sports and playgrounds for children. I recommend General Wayne Park, Narberth Park, and Narbrook Park. Several streets in Narberth and nearby boast English village Harry Potter-esque houses to die for such as Queen Anne architecture found at the corner of Windsor Avenue and Dudley Avenue. A secret gem is the walk left of the house and left again through Lantwyn Lane. Another, with views of more spacious homes, is the walk to the right out of the house when you come to the intersecting Derwen Road, Winding Way, and Haywood Road. If you want to see large mansions, drive along the back-roads towards Gladwynne and Villanova (keep North of Montgomery Avenue to see more exceptional ones) – the scenic drive itself is worth it, especially PA Route 23 and several offshoots.
While I could recommend other spots, the scenery pales in comparison to the nearby universities like St Joseph’s University, Haverford, Bryn Mawr and Villanova, which are within 1.5 miles (walking to St Joseph’s) to 5 miles (train/drive...or walk the pedestrian footpath by shops along Lancaster Avenue). Other universities are slightly further away such as U Penn and Drexel (5-6 miles), where I suggest either taking the train or driving (I do not suggest walking the entire route through West Philadelphia for safety reasons). You can easily walk in less than 10 minutes the the (SEPTA / Regional) train bringing you to Philadelphia (6 miles) in about 15 minutes. Many buses come through and you can hail an Uber in minutes as it's a well traveled college and commuter district. We are within two miles (Route 76) and six miles of the intersections of multiple major highways.
