This cozy log cabin that sits at the base of the Warner Mountains at 5,340 ft on 20 acres and backs to the National Forest. Beautiful view of the broad valley of the Pit River where you can witness breath-taking sunsets, dark skies where the Milky Way is visible to the naked eye, and even Mt. Shasta —which is located 95 miles west as the crow flies. Small cabin with a small kitchen, one bathroom, one open bedroom upstairs. The cabin is very much located in the country which means nature happens everywhere. With nature comes bugs and critters. Please be aware of that when you book.

Easily the best place to stay in Alturas, if not the entirety of Modoc county. Incredibly accommodating host, awesome location.
Stephen and the Cranky Canard were great. Awesome launchpoint to outdoor activities; Hiking, Skiing, CA/ NV High Desert, Wild Horses, Hot Springs or quiet living. I will 100% return for another trip. Had some great morning runs in as well. Nice, clean, and well equipped for whatever stay.
I'm always on the lookout for dog friendly cabins where my suburban dogs can explore and be outside with no leashes. This place was perfect! no neighboring cabins right next door, lots of space to roam. amazing views and sunsets. I loved the wood burning stove, and the kitchen is well stocked. the upstairs loft has very steep staircase, so not ideal for persons with disabilities (or elderly dogs). no biggie though, because the downstairs sofa converts to a bed. I really appreciated visiting Warner Mountain Wilderness, where I felt like I had 70000 acres all to myself

Located at the northwestern base of the Warner Mountains in Alturas, Modoc county, Thom’s Creek is a neighborhood of 20 acre lots. Ranchers, farmers, and retired folk make up this quiet area surrounded by wilderness.
The road is unpaved from the highway to the cabin (approximately 2.5 miles). 4x4 or AWD is recommended during winter season. There is plenty of parking, even if you have a trailer.
